HI All
It's funny how BMC get things wright when they design things for a special purpose, the MK1 dizzy was designed as a race dizzy.
now if you do a lot of dyno work (engine dyno) you will discover that race mini or a good road mini that makes it's HP up at around 7000/7500 rpm will need a minium of 3deg more advance at peak HP than at peak torque, this is why they made this dizzy the way they did both for the std MK1 and for their race engines when they used their race cams, 649 and others.
With my own race cars i don't use any advance curve i lock the dizzy solid and set the advance for either peak torque or peak HP depending on the circuit, doing it this way helps with spark scatter and dizzy wind back at high RPM because of harmonics and engine vibration

the 1976 manual does list the non vacuum advance 29D ( AYG0175 ) as being fitted to the Clubman GT and it has the same characteristics as the 40819H fitted to the Cooper S.
