Hee hee, there's something exciting about the sight of a mini half way thru a strip down :)... kinda gets your blood running knowing whats to come...

Good job Kristy, great find and at a pretty good price too I might add. It looks a little grubby but at least its in tact with out too much rust. She'll (he'll) come together great :)

Look forward to seeing the finished job :)

Congratz on the bargain!!

That interior looks like it's out of an earlier clubby though. Or at least the door cards are. Plus, I'm pretty sure the Yellow devil Sunshine should have Antique Parchment Vinyl with the Brown Dot Pattern Cloth inserts (inserts on the seats SHOULD go all the way - not just in the bum part like yours).

I used to own a 78 Yellow Devil Sunshine too .... awesome fun cruising around in during spring, Autumn and Summer.

Good luck and can't wait to see the progress.

Cheers,
Skender.

I agree, I think the seats are wrong. My sunshine is yellow devil and the vinyl is parchment with brown dot cloth with the cloth running from headrest to the leading edge of the seat.

Looks good though, nice to see another one. Pm or email me, I think we can help each other!!!

Yeah I have 2 sets of interior that came with the car, one set is the brown that came from another clubby and i also have another set which is the pale creamy colour but they are almost destroyed so i am recovering those ones.
Might sell the brown ones, I don't think i'm going to use them...

I also have a full set of brown plush carpet which i think is the original carpets. I'll add another pic of the 2nd set of interior to my photobucket account

I'm pretty sure I bought the last 3 meters off him back in 2006.

At any rate - if you tell John what car you have you can bet your balls he'll tell you exactly what it should have and if you can get it.

thanks for that info guys

What im thinking i will do... is get both sets of interior done...
one set as original colours, and one set white with black piping and dark grey carpet.
The exterior is going to be high gloss black with white roof.... :D

At least then if I go to sell her or put her in a show etc, i can throw the originals in (as it would increase the value and the originality factor)

Do all mini's have adjustable hight suspension? I knew someone who had that in theirs I've just never seen it done

I toyed with all sorts of colour options but in the end I have decided to go with the original yellow devil. The value in a cooper s lies mainly in the mechanical, with a sunshine it's all in how it looks and in painting a new colour you might virtually remove the value of it being a sunshine.

Besides they look pretty good in yellow and I might even be able to find a set of the original prismatic decals if you are going that route

AFAIK height adjustable suspension (or Hi Lo's) are an after market mod and were not originally fitted but quite popular over the years.

Good plan with the two sets of interior - IF you have the money and storage space!!! But def a good idea.

I'd consider keeping/restoring to orignal spec/colour. I only say that because (apart from being anal about preservation of original minis), imo nothing holds value better than originality. It's what sells cars imo. Just my thoughts on it, but full respect to anyone who does or thinks otherwise as there is also a place for custom / modified minis.

Here's a pic of the one I owned from 1999 - 2001. My first ever mini - damn I loved that car.

you can make out the right interior combination in this pic:

You mean the Sunshine?

It was TOTALLY and COMPLETELY original when I bought it and I TOTALLY and COMPLETELY fu*#ed it up!!! It even had the original air pump still attached and working which I hastily "de-commissioned" using a pair of scissors to cut the belt!! I then got cleaned up by a TRAM because I couldn't find reverse thanks to Leylands' "innovative" reverse selector trick!!! I got it back on the road only to eventually run the motor dry due to not paying enough attention to it - but not before blowing two head gaskets and burninga valve!! I thrashed the absolute arse off that poor little thing, all the while not realising or fully appreciating what I actually had. What an idiot.

I miss that car terribly and wish I had never sold it. I think at the time I sold it, I got around $1200 dollars for it with a rooted 1100 engine that I bought off some ol' guy in Geelong who said he re-built it. It was one of those re-builds that only involved a paint brush!!!

Sorry for the thread hi-jack Kristy!!

I too have a sunshine that has been somewhat barstardized. I picked it up 12 years ago registered in Canberra and green in colour. Did I mention I paid $800 for it.
Since then I have made it mine with different colour, ripped the dash out, fitted a set of vdo gauges, and fitted an aftermarket seat. I cut a hole behind the back seat and fitted a sub.
I can hear the mini fanatics cringe
I have had an awesome time cruising in the beast, and the fact that it is a sunshine and has some value has stopped me from sending to the grave (like the traveller I had). Now undertaking rust repairs. Prob would do most of it the same again (except throwing things like dash and radio out, and prob wouldn't cut a hole for sub)
