There is a guy in SA who has/used to have a bug eye sprite with a 13B turbo wankel under the bonnet.....That was insane!!!

Back in the 70s-80s when sprites were relatively low value cars fitting a cortina motor was a common thing. Both the 1500 and the crossflow motor went in relatively easily.

Fitting a lotus twin cam would have been equally as easy bar the cost.

 Geees I bet a few of you wished you'd stocked up on them then hey :)

I spoke to a guy who bought a half finished Bug Eye and paid $12,000 for it, he tells me that a finished Bug Eye in reasonable nick will set you back $18,000 and that the show stoppers cost around $23,000... the MkIII's are cheaper (unless I'm thinking of the MKVI which I'm starting to think I am) from what I've been told, you can get them around the $5,000-$8,000 mark.....

Not that I would ever have intrest in one of those

Funny isn't it,,, they made more Cooper S's than Bug Eye Sprites, but even though the Sprites are rarer than the Cooper S's, they still go for similar money... I think its pretty obvious which one the better car is

 The end result would of been two hundred cars of many makes lying around the paddock in various states of repair.

My mother used to tell me I need self discipline. Some of that message must have stuck

C'mon Mike..... thats good advice..... you can't argue with that :)

Yeah,,, I get the "when will it end", lecture from my very patient girl friend all the time... usually followed by the "you need to learn to say no", lecture... and then the "why do you always seem to have more money for cars than me", lecture ....

I get lectured a lot

The key point is to keep buying mini's the same colour , I remember red oxide primer being the best one at one stage I had 4 or 5 mini's I'd bought as projects from people (too cheap to pass on and have since been moved on to people who have used them) . It's surprising how many you can sneak into a yard on the pretence of taking one for someone to look at and bringing it home again when they didn't like it (until your parents go right down the back of the 2 1/2 acre yard and see 4 red oxide mini's lined up together ....)

Ah, but these days you can get more HP from an A series mate.

Grey motor was an anchor, really. Never trust a manufacturer who fails to fit an oil filter.... yeah aircooled VWs too.

My dad whacked a grey into a morry minor when i was , well maybe one or two years old,,, he has always sadi that he belives it was because of that car that Brisbane Machinery inspection dept became created (that`s Dept of Tpt for all you young-uns) :-)

& the best use that i`ve ever found for anything from a holden grey donk was a con-rod we made work as the belt tensioner arm on our super-charged mini,,, serious,,, we still have it & yep it`s still doing the job admirably :-) altho it hasn`t turned a wheel since about 1990 :-) but it`s still there :-)
