Something not quite right about this one.

In the title it says 1971, in the ad it says 1970 and the body number is too early for a "flapper". With the compliance plate missing, well :?:

Steve

I didn't 'study' it, but yes something is rotten in china as they say. Might make good spares for a Clubman GT.....but probably not at that price.....

I was interested in this car because of the ex-Police references so posed a question to the seller about its history and had a friendly response. I can't see any reason why I shouldn't post the reply here as it may help other Ausmini members in assessing whether or not to bid. The following is verbatim and includes the identity of the restorer. For the record, the comment about Stella Blue being used exclusively on NSW Police Coopers is incorrect.

This cooper ‘s’ was rebuilt to NSW police specifications by Mini and Moke World in Sydney. The colour is original and was the colour used by NSW police vehicles we believe exclusively however there is no paper trail to verify the history of the car. The NSW specifications included handbrake warning light, 1 ½ inch Twin SU’s, High lift cam, lowered seats ce force.
The car was found by Andrew the owner of Mini and Moke world a couple of years before the rebuild on a Farm in north-east NSW. Mini and Moke world then purchased it, and rebuilt the car. The body was in relatively good shape and still in the original colour of Stella Blue. Unfortunately the engine was missing, so another engine was taken out of a 1969 Cooper ‘S’. I hope this Information helps. If you need to know anything else, just let us know. Mini and Moke World would be able to provide additional background on the car.

Hi Graham - I can tell you are quite emotional about my post based on the number of emoticons you've used. :D
I'm now trying to work out what message you are imparting. I'm guessing it's something you don't want to put into concise words in case it offends - yeah?

The right of reply....this is to present the facts on this forum re this car
rather than give opinions....as can be the norm.

1.Mini & Moke World P/l purchased the car as a rolling shell.
2.There was NO compliance plate on the car at this time.
3.The owner at the time knew nothing of it previous 30 plus years.
3.MMW AT NO TIME said the plate was lost while being resprayed.
4.At no time was this mini claimed to be "an ex NSW police car " but
to have a police pack.twin 1 1/2 carbs,731 can etc with it's's original
colour being stela blue.
5.The current owner was given all this infomation prior to the purchase
& i personally told him if he was looking for an original matching no.
car this isn't it.He told me he WASN'T concerned with originality, like many back then.He spent some weeks speaking to car clubs & doing his
homework & came over to Sydney to make the purchase at the same
price he is asking for many years later.
6.This car wasn't a nut & bolt restoration by any means as the asking
price would indicate. The current owner wanted a car he could use that
looked great & went well.Full stop.

I hope this clears up ANY inuindo on this topic.

Hi MMW

As one of the originators of the question posed about this car I feel a bit responsible for the direction it has taken, I apologise for this.

I was merely pointing out that it was probably not the best example for Watto to use.

However while we are discussing it maybe you can help with one question I had. The body number quoted is too low for a burstproof door car, going by the available information anyway. Do you know if the body number quoted was correct, maybe the car had been modified to have the burstproof doors :!: , any ideas on this aspect :?:

Cheers
Steve
