Yeah, someone recommended 24 grit sandpaper then wipe clean with vinegar.

You could also try detol on a wire brush. Works great for me.

I just remembered......Back when I bought a brand new Triumph Trident
it came with......believe or not....chromed disc brakes.
So after a near miss in Beaudesert in the wet, I took them some where that I
don't remember and I think they used an acid bath to remove the chrome.
Sorry just can't remember the details.

The stripping process needs to be done in 2 stages depending on the substrate
Assuming its steel then the crome is removed in a sodium hydroxide bath with reverse current of about 6Volt pressure
To remove the next coat which will be nickel - this is done a sulphuric acid bath with reverse current of about the same for crome The anodes used are lead. This process will also remove the copper
Different process if the base is brass
Some plating is done el cheapo by eliminating the copper stage
I would give it to you plater but make sure there is NO grease or oil ANYWHERE including the gauze in the breather It contaminates his bath and the price will go through the roof!!!!

Original Q was re painting a chrome rocker cover. It's easier to strip & paint a painted one instead.

yeh if i can locate another rocker cover like the one i have i would be happy to prep and paint that instead of going to whole remove the chrome option.

my rocker cover has a breather comming off the top to the drivers side. i have a catch can all setup for this side.

does anyone have a rocker cover in ok condition i could buy?

needs to be the same as this if i can find it........

I have a boxful of covers in the back shed. But it will only be on the weekend I can check.
