I wouldn't say a MKI is better but for me: I like my horn button and steering wheel, the heater looks better I think and I prefer the bonnet badge on the MKI, the instrument binnacle is simpler with the lights incorporated in the speedo instead of on the binnacle so it looks simpler, I think they do look older and I like that. The 3 synchro box took a bit of getting used to at first but I drive 60+ k's in it a day for the last few years so I am used to it. The hydrolastic suspension hasn't had any problems at all. I would happily have either though.

Mk 1 for sure now. But not always.

I had a Mk 1 in 67 and loved it but then couldn't wait to get a MK 2 when they came out. I got one in 71 then went with the flow which was to "update" them with the then new style clubman tail lights and dash (which actually put the instruments in front of the driver which back then was a dream come true for many Mini owners, strange as it might seem now). Still got the Mk 2.

Mk2 definately looks more aggressive.

MK1 has a more gentle sad look...(the grill on the front!)

Both have same grille exactly, here in Oz (not UK or NZ). Mk1 style.
