It's funny how much help you get on ausmini when you're a girl  all the guys rush in to give their 2 cents..

Personally being male, ive only been an observer, rather than a recipient of this phenomenon :D 8)

Wire wheel will do a great job..You can use a drill or a grinder with the wheel attched.

Crikey Gaf, you did a good job! :D Thanks for the pics!

I'll do it this weekend with the wire wheel.. I had to use a wire wheel on the drivers side door cause I found out the hard way that it was majorly bogged. The last owner instead of knocking out the ding he filled it with body filler instead  The door was so smooth considering it was caked on!

Wow gafmo, great job there ;)

Fruity, the wire wheel on the drill trick works well, if you have an angle grinder its much easier/faster. Leave any GOOD paint, but wire off anything a bit dodgy. Use rust converter on light rust and prime ;)

A friend suggested that I get my shell sandblasted. He said that a whole car inside/out cost about $300. This sounds like good value considering its all over back to metal (save my weekends and back). Has anyone had this done before?

Gafmo thats an awesome finish. Hope that mine looks like that one day!

sandblasting a shell will be about $300 - $500

It's not the best idea.......yes you save time in paint stripping, but it will punch holes anywhere the metal is thin.

There was a roundy shell for sale recently that my in laws looked at. It had been sandblasted......and had holes EVERYWHERE!! in places you would never imagine.

Anton I was just reading that you stripped your car by hand! I don't think I want to do that. I am looking for a quick 'lazy' alternative that will strip the car so I am certain it has no tin worm.

Bye the way how nice is that black lab of yours! we have a gold.

Yeah blasting causes holes in thin spots, but then again so would a probe if you had checked there for rust ;)

There are different types of blast medium, from sand to soda to ground nut shells, the softer ones won't harm the metal as near as bad as sand. The biggest thing you want to worry about in blasting is metal deformation on the really large unsuported areas (like the rear quarter panels ;) ) any holes it finds are holes that should be repaired irregaurdless if you manually strip it or it's blasted.

Oh yeah, another big negative with blasting! dist and debris filtering out of the nooks and crannies spoiling paint jobs and making a general nuisance for a long time after the blasting unless the car is meticulously cleaned right after blasting! :D
