sad news bout scoob,

keep us informed on the shannons service.

i'm sure heaps of us on here are with them, but i rarely meet/speak to someone who's actually claimed through them, and let's face it that's where the proof is in their pudding.

I've claimed through Shannons twice, both for incidents that I wasn't at fault in.

I've never been asked to take it to an assessment centre - both times I just took it to my preferred repairer, had it repaired, and the assessor came out to check the car at my place. I have been very happy with their service.

Sounds a bit odd. My most recent claim was last week, too, so they wouldn't have changed anything since then.

I think the point is there are hundreds of cars all in the same position so to save time going around to each one they do a production line system.

All cars to the yard. lets start assessing. Just saving time.

I have a mate who is a panel beater who is an approved repairer for my other car's insurance and I usually just give them to him. I will give him a ring but I know he doesn't want to know he is just too busy all the time.

We shall reserve judgement until the car is repaired.

At the end of the day the car is still drivable and very fixable regardless, a tree didn't fall on him, the interior stayed dry (on the whole)and apart from slight brain damage, caused by too many years in aviation, all is good.

I could leave the dents as battle scars and chuck a sticker on the back saying "I survived the great hail stone battering of 2010"

Thanks for the sentiment guys, the Scoob will be just fine. Oh yeah and I will post some pics but I got caught up this arvo and forgot.

Cheers,

Gig.

There are thousands of cars with hail damage - almost unheard of in Perth.

We've just got power & phones back on. Power went out about 9:30am Monday with a pole top fire. #1 son also aquaplaned through a flooded roundabout in his car delivering pizzas on Monday night, so we had to go pick that up with the trailer yesterday. Now have to fit a replacement LH suspension arm and pivot pin, and a new tyre/wheel alignment.

I had a good look at the rest of the car last night and, apart from a few bits of trees caught underneath and a dodgy earth wire for the thermofan, all is good. Although i already need a new CV boot on the left hand side, it's already starting to split and the oil seal for the gear selector shaft is leaking too. Oh well time to start the renewal of a few bits, a stitch in time and all that.

I haven't got a call from an assessor yet but after seeing some of the damaged cars I seriously don't think mine will be anywhere near a write off, it's insured for 10g so I can't see it going anywhere near that.

fingers crossed.... but either way you probably win, written off and keeping the car to fix, or having it repaired under insurance

major pain in the bum though
