My Sept. '66 Morris Cooper S is 190 engine numbers later and the body number is A056546. You could ask what the body number is. The plate is on the bonnet shut crossmember, just seen at the lower left of the engine pic. Engine and gearbox casting numbers would also be helpful and a model year for the car.

To pass helpful comment and offer an opinion, more numbers are needed and many more detailed photos.

The little things I can see that are not correct and cast doubt are ;

wrong head
wrong brake master cylinder
wrong brake servo and mounted incorrectly
wrong boot board
wrong right fuel tank (made standard in '66)
wrong dash ashtray
Wrong brake pedal height (looks that way in photo anyway)

Agreeably, these could all have been changed over time. I do see it has the correct starter solenoid bracket, that one is often overlooked. There are plenty of other things wrong which are more to do with the restoration, like the grey dash rail and speedo binnacle vinyl (should be black) and green carpet (should be grey), wrong covering on the seats (looks like it could be leather) It looks like it might have a 4 synchro rod change box fitted too.

While I cannot say it isn't genuine, there are enough detail things wrong to suggest you should be very careful proceeding with a purchase.

Regards
Al

yours is a 970?

I assume the engine number plate could be moved to a different block, so you'd want to check the casting number as Matt said

Should it also have the 3.5 inch Cooper S wheels? These have the hubcaps jutting out much more than the "normal" Oz S wheels.

Once again however...its another bolt on mod...

well maybe he did put the 970 engine number plate on a 1275 engine then...

so is it for sale, or are you just stirring??

That car was for sale, using the same photos, on the U.S based Mini Mania website around six months a go. The car was based in the U.S and the asking price was 40k USD

I think you better check the legitimacy of the seller.

It's one for sale and I am hunting about for a MK1 1275 ORIGINAL.

I am using the wise and sagely members as an authenticity verifier! :D

From what I hear so far - not original.[/u]

someone is telling stories, because in this photo (click here) you can see a lead light cord in the top left corner, it's fuzzy, but it appears to have a US plug on it

Well it will always attract arm chair critics. Matt Read did say it would need an eyeball in the flesh to be sure.

I do wonder if some are judging its originality against locally made cars instead of against the true british made cars.

The over spray on the door strikers certainly makes you wonder if its had a touch up spray or accident repair at some stage. Thats not a problem if its been properly done.

Its still a nice car regardless of its true or untrue originality

Mike

Where, what is in the RH corner?!

The bottom line here is this is being sold as a 100% original 1275 MK1 Cooper S.

I've already picked up its a 970 cc motor and a few other bits and pieces are wrong with it.

If it was <$20k then fine but at the price being asked....goodbye Mr Bond.

Correct - California. It was exported from the UK many years ago by a resident who now lives in California.
