The bodies got assembled and painted and were then stored till needed.
Once a shell in that colour was required it was then put onto the production line for assembly.
So two consecutively built shells could come off the line weeks apart.

Also complete cars were stored without compliance plates. It was only when the car was ready to go to a dealer that the plate was made and fitted.

But a 10/70 car with ADR2 door locks would warrant further inspection. I think a time machine may have been involved at one stage. (or the bloke operating stamping the new plates may have stamped a 10 instead of a 12)

The earliest "flapper" on my register is 12/70. I would think the 10/70 is either an anomoly or suspect.

The last on the register are 6/71, when I believe the last of them were made.

By the way people, if you see ANY Mini K and are able to get details of it for my register please do. The more I get on it the more confidence can be had in the information it contains.

Cheers
Steve

Forget the chassis numbers and compliance plates for a moment. The body number would be the more relevant here.

The body number was stamped into the body after it was assembled in the body shop and before painting. The chassis number was stamped after final assembly was completed.

The compliance plate gives the date the car was sold to the dealership, not the actual date of manufacture.

October 1970 does seem very early for an ADR2 car to be sold to the dealership, but maybe there is more to the story.

Check the body numbers and see where these cars fit in with each other. It was very common for cars to get out of sequence during assembly, for a number of reasons.

Cheers,
Watto.
