Watto.

My records support this totally as the earliest (so far) burstproof door fitted Mini K is 12/70, obviously in preparation for the 1/1/71 date.

Steve

Yep, I have to agree.
All the Cooper S's that I have seen with Clubman taillights had them fitted later on.

There may have been some extra Cooper S bits carried over to the very earliest Clubman GT, can you pick it.

No, I mean a specific Cooper S bit that should not really be on a GT.

Thanks Panthersteve... I hope to hear from you re paint codes if you can get in touch with him.

Seems I've opened a can of worms in terms of originality questions. Brilliant! I love how this forum works!

Did The Mini K have reversing lights ie. Double filament 12 Volt 21/21 Watt Globe like the Leyland tail light ? This is something I never looked into when reverse lights actually came in on Minis. I know the later Vans had Revesing lights. But when were they first fitted to roundnose Minis ?

For roundnose minis, they were only* fitted to the police cars, so K's shouldn't* have them.

Dad's '68 ex-cop car has the wiring in the loom, my '70 S doesn't have any wiring for reversing lights

* feel free to tell me I'm wrong

The Mini K, MK II Cooper S, etc. did not have reversing lights as standard, although it's possible the last cars in the model range had them to use up old stock before the Clubman appeared (can anyone confirm?). They were fitted as an option and mainly for the Police specification on the Cooper S - SPO41. If you look at the wiring diagram on page n-21 of TP832C (the Black covered Leyland workshop manual) you'll see Note 7 says: "Reversing lights fitted to special order only". A different rear wiring loom was used, which included the reversing light wire and a special twin connector on the end. The AL136 light bases were modified by replacing the single filament turn indicator globe holder with a twin filament alternative.
