I have this exact problem, and I find it's worst when the engine is cold (sub 10oC here). Also, if I've been cruising at 100km/h and have to stop for construction, same problem though the engine is warm. I found if you use the accelerator to ease the revs down, the problem is lessened.

I have 2 hypotheses that need testing:
1. The viscosity of the damper fluid. It's too runny (or empty) causing the it to enrichen the mixture excessively on lift off. When the engine is cold, cranking resistance is high, so that is enough to stall the engine.
2. The plugs are overly fouled when running with the choke on which makes it harder to fire at low revs.

You can test for clutch overthrow by putting the clutch in when it's just been started. If the revs don't change, then it should be ok?

Edit: Single 1.5in SU, ramflo filter, LCB
Edit2: Float bowl leaked once upon a time, was fixed by cleaning gasket and tightening lid. Electronic fuel pump with lots of pressure.

Clutch overthrow. Back the adjustment of the clutch off.

That's what I was getting at.

Foot of pedal. Clutch in, revs drop down low, nearly stals or just stals.

Does it idle ok when in neutral, without the cluctch in? If you then disengage the clutch, do the rev's drop? If so your clutch is overthrowing, which correct me if I'm wrong, is putting a lot of pressure on your crank? (Hence the stalling)

YES

If you then disengage the clutch, do the rev's drop?

NO

Thanks for the advice, i can not do much now as it's 1am. i just drove back home now.

the problems seems to come & go!

will update more tomorrow.
