i meant race winning credibility, you're not a real car nut unless you race :)

I respectfully disagree, and so I image would many people. :)

I am a car nut foremost and enjoy cars of all ages. I live and breathe them. Driving them, reading about them, being seen in them or just plain looking at them. I reckon every car has a story to tell, now matter how rare/common/fast/slow/crap/good it is. What little racing I do is very much a secondary interest.

fair enough i guess i worded that wrong,

but what i'm saying is i dont value the opinions of common car nuts like i do race car drivers with championships and bathursts under their belts.

i'm a car nut but nobody would want to watch me be on top gear.

if lowndsey says its a good car, then i'll believe it.

If some actor/musician/magazine editor/cartoonist who likes to collect cars and compete in the odd motorsport event reviews a car i am just not that interested.

i'll admit i do like the porsche test driver guy, even though he failed to give an opinion on ford vs holden and is heavily porsche biased.

i think its a bit different with clarkson, as he's made a career out of reviewing cars in an entertaining fashion.

i'll give the new top gear a go like i did with the old one, but yea i dont have any hope for it.

Forget the personalities and their expertise....

they trashed and shot at a Mini van in one episode because they thought it was fun and drowned a perfectly good Moke because they thought THAT would be fun in another episode....

DOWN WITH ATG AND THEIR MINI HATRED!!!

Yeah, what's wrong with them. There's plenty of Morris Marinas around :P

Different strokes for different folks.

I just can't stand Steve Pizzati. What kind of a knob says "Grouse" every five minutes? To me the guy has the all the annoying personality of a mosquito. Yes, he can drive, but I don't value anything he says.

But face it, we watch TG to be entertained, being informed is secondary. Most of us a never going to have the money to seriously contemplate whether to buy a new Aston or 911. But we all like to see them thrashed around and dream.

Cheers,
Brett.

The Aussie Marinas are different to the UK ones. They aren't as crap.. Perhaps TG should have a look at the Ugliest Cars Ever Made thread on here and go for them

Lets make one thing clear:
NO ONE sell any Mini or Moke to anyone who mentions using it on Top Gear.

In two seasons, Aussie Top Gear have done 2 bad things to Minis/Mokes. UK TopGear in all their seasons haven't harmed a Mini as bad as they [the aussies] did (as far as I know) although the ski ramp was a bit harsh!

There are several things I like about Top Gear and one is that although it is a Car show, it has far more imagination and is for broader than amy other car show to date. Yeah, there are the cars, but there is also adventure and mateship (putting crap on each other) and a lot of laughs.

5th Gear is a good car show, but is no match to Top Gear for entertainment.

The first series of Aust TG was rubbish, but I flet with the last one they were moving in the right direction.

I reckon they should get the two blokes who do Might Car Mods.

You don't need drivers, you need entertainers. Just because someone is a reasonable race car driver does not make them a entertaining TV host (and visa versa).

Yes , top Gear works because of Clarkson , Hammond and May , not because it is just a car show . You can't expect a show of 3 guys being told how to act to each other and towards the cars to work like the original :(

Channel 9 - they have the rights to TG UK, they have the rights to TGA.

it could have been awesome.. go skaifey, lowndsey and crompo or sommit like that.

I subscribe to Clarkson's position, that racing drivers' opinions aren't worth knowing. Because they just want to go fast. Something TG Mag UK does well is test a car according to its purpose. TGA Mag isn't quite as good. TGUK won't complain because a 4WD isn't fast through the bends, or because a family car won't do 0-100 in under 10 seconds. Real people have opinions that are more relevant to the general public. Racing drivers are only interested in one thing. Hence why Stiggie doesn't talk.

You mean that Clarkson, Hammond and May aren't real car nuts..? When was the last time Jay Leno got on a track..?

I do find it ironic that, given Clarkson's opinions on racing drivers' opinions (seemingly with the exception of Tiff), Pizatti's the one survivor from the crew. :? He was the most annoying, and he's a racing driver. I can see not retaining both Warren and James - they were probably too alike to have together (though they were both ok, and could've been great). But Steve..?

That said, I do remember Clarkson going on about how rubbish the then new Mini (mid to late 90's, it was an 'S' Works) was on old Top Gear. And May used his purchase of a Mini (1300, 13" rims) as a good example of why one shouldn't drink and eBay... Apparently Hammond went over to May's house after the BAFTA's, and May woke the next morning unable to remember bidding on the Mini, let alone winning it.

And... Ewen Page. Wasn't his old man a car journo, too..? I do remember Ewen being the editor of MOTOR something like 15 years ago...

That's what I thought too, but good ol' SBS screened a repeat of TGA the other day, so I'm not so sure................

the worst thing that could happen to TGA was going to CH9. There's too much at stake for the corportation, and way too many external influences, to make a lighthearted entertaining show that isn't afraid to push the boundaries...
