ya live and learn, hey mate!. You seem pretty cool about it ?!?!?

Is this your first car?

My first car was a 253 LX Torana. I wrapped it around a tree after 6 months :? It was FUBAR, big time!

Always the way... the car infront usually gets almost no damage... the car behind will break something important (dizzy, radiatior, oil filter...)

One discrepancy with a previous post there Will..... you say you were doing 40 down that road.... THEN you say you locked up for 15 metres and hit at around 30 kays???? Me thinks you were doin more than 40.

You need to learn and practise some basic roadcraft and racecraft.

Firstly, not only do you watch the car you are following, but you watch the car HE is following too. This is the first way to avoid chain collisions.

Secondly, say: A THOUSAND AND WUUUUN - A THOUSAND AND TOOOOOO.

Thirdly - if your brakes are locked, back off a bit - let the wheels rotate so you can steer out of any situation. THIS is a hard skill to learn AND do.... but it pays off.

Ive had a few times where I would have ended up in a guard rail.... going way too fast into a corner, aiming for the rail - locked em up... and actually took my foot OFF the brake. The car turned away just in time. Any other sunday driver would have ended up bending their ride.

without wanting to sound like a smart arse...
locked brakes or panic braking isnt necessilary the quickest way to stop, or avoid a bingle. (yeah i know its a bit late telling you now) .. its hard to mentaly overide the natural inclination to try and push the brake pedal through the floor in a potential accident situation.
next time you have your willy out practice stepping on him more genitaly oooops thats gently..
sorry to hear the bad news but it coulda been worse and you survived to tell the tale..
thats the main thing..If thats the worst stack you ever have youll be cheering..

as much as it suck and it does, to put a positive on a negative, it looks like metal under the paint (as opposed to bog) so at least there arent any nasty surprises there for the pano's to give excuse for a rise in the cost of repairs!! how did the other car fare, did the mini come out on top?

my sister ran up the back of a mazda 121 in her gemini, the gem had a little dent in the bonnet and the 121 was written off

so are you going to replace the ricer front end with a hi-po front end like you did with the jun BL?
my first instinct is to swerve rather than brake.. you learn that when you have no brakes on every mini you have owned.
it actually saved me running up the back of a friends supra turbo when we were racing the uphill on old norton summit road.
