meeni, you had me worried for a moment.....I thought maybe I had subconsciously copied someones wheel.
On the Momo website they list about 50 different styles and below are three of those styles that some might consider "classic".
The third one is called "Retro" and the last one in mine.
As far as I know there isn't anything similar to it.8)
Most of the Momos come in 13 3/4" (350mm) dia. My prototype is 14 3/4" (375mm). One of the reasons it was kept only 20mm smaller than the original is the idea that the wheel could have been an upmarket or "sports" option back in the 1960s.
It had to look as if it was specially made for the Mini. (Which this one is)
When I make the proper casting pattern and have it photographed in a Mini you will see the subtle styling cues.

You mean this one?....Chrome and black leather. I think we could agree the designer did not have old classics or Minis in mind when he sat in front of his computer drawing this one.
Although I could see it looking rather nice in a MINI. "Very 8) "

MG Rocket, any possibility of getting a burr walnut finish for the wheel?

I much prefer the arms on this one to my current wood grain wheel, would be nice to keep the wood grain finish however

I also have a soft spot for wood rim wheels but at this stage I can't offer wood. This wheel will be manufactured from a mould to keep the price reasonable, so custom variations will be limited to changes of colour.
Although it would be possible to have someone clever put a faux wood finish on it.

Looks really good. Just one thing that jumped out at me from that picture was that the wheel doesn't appear to be symmetrical. Is it just a mock up or is this to be used for creating the mould?

It might just be the photo/lighting etc but the bottom '7' shape formed by the left and bottom spokes on the left hand side look like they join the wheel boss at a slightly lower point than the right hand side. I really like the style/design though, very elegant.

You have sharp eye, weevel :!:
This is a mock up to test the look I had in mind. The styling still needs a bit of refinement. So this is not the pattern for the mould.

Well if the burr walnut is not an option, than i stand by my original idea.

I suggest making the outer, compliment the stock interior colours (at least match it to the creme interior for my mini 8) )

At long last I've made significant progress on the steering wheel. These photos are pretty awful but 68Rusty has done a fine job of photoshopping them to make them presentable. My photography does not do the wheel justice.
They needed photoshopping because this is only the pattern and it looked like patchwork, made from several different types and colour of material.
From this pattern a mould will be made and from the mould the steering wheel is cast.

I'll like to give special thanks to GT Mowog, Phat Kat, Graham in Australia, David Rosenthal and 68Rusty for their help getting me this far.
