If I did another one I'd either use a different grain direction so that it was curving in the natural direction or track down some of that enviroven, which has shorter grain and will curve more easily. Alternatively a normal veneer (not iron on) would probably be able to be steamed around the curve.

worth trying trying the normal veneer i think
this is the dash fitted with the outer peices in

I got all the original bits with my 850 as well. Been wondering what path to take. One option was to get it redone by a pro, plus make one up out of carbon fibre (in the same style as the original).
Change my dash to suit my mood.

My Mum's '61 850 had the same dash. I always liked the way that the centre piece and the two side panels were 'book matched', the grain on the veneer on one side mirrored the other side.

Moriarty, I have a dash the same and could trace out a template of the centre bit for you. You could cut it out of ply and then get someone like dashoriginal to apply the veneer to the whole dash.
They are actually supposed to be a five piece dash, they should be two little bits that cover the gap each side where it joins the pillar.

That might be just the ticket, Morris! I now have the first one, as per niffty64's pic above, but missing centre piece, and a second one that I got from AWOODY, similar design but wider centre panel and holes for two smaller gauges. In both cases, I think I am missing the 4th and 5th bits

Might be headed down to Canberra sometime over summer, if so I'll drop you a line, or yell loudly as we zoom by on the Federal :D

Hmmm...decisions, decisions: speedo and two gauges, or two gauges mounted below dash a la niffty64's pic...? :?

I carefully sanded one of those dashes back to the veneer by hand, stained it and covered it with a few coats of clear. It's probably still in the van I sold.

Wish I had kept it, as I want another unmodified one for the Traveller.
