The only reason I did what I did was because I didn't have a lot of money at the time....for your own safety.....if you can afford new shoes, then do it.

Just a little question about safety, I am not too worried about the wet brake shoes as they will eventually dry up (I would light them up with metho) but.....
How old are the rubbers in the wheel cylinders?
How old are the brake hoses?

I would be looking at these things before puting it back together.

Trouble is Morrie....if you have blown the seals on one side and then you have to jump on the brakes...really stand on them....guess what?

around you go :!:

The wet shoe has different grab to the unwet one.... :?

Yes, but you already know you have wet shoes on one side so you can take precautions (like burning the fluid off with metho or a lot a brake applications) but the real worry is 40 year old wheel cylinder rubbers and brake hoses.

In the 80's Castrol had to recall the top selling brand of brake fluid because it caused problems with brake rubbers in some cars.
If you don't know how old the rubbers are in your car you should replace them.

Mozza!! no arguments with what you have said...the brake fluid is probably full of water as well if it ain't been fully flushed out.

Trouble I found with fluid impregnated shoes is that if you just tootle around and never actually get em hot....and you know what that takes..the onset of fade....then the fluid just seems to weep out when it feels like it until enough is out to change the braking characteristics of that wheel...ya dig :!:  :D

You are worrying about $28.70 worth (new from Karcraft) of shoes. And I bet the old ones are 1/2 worn anyhow.
No contest.
Do you wanna do it right 1st time, or 2nd, or 3rd...

these ones look new....full of meat...if they were half worn I wouldn't be bothering.....geez I am not that bad!

$28.70 is 2 swimming lessons for my son or 7 Disney books or a take away dinner from the local ching chong joint......

All much better things than shoes for the old digger.

If I can't clean them adequately I will get new ones.....
