FFS how did we all get by with our pre-ADR Minis before they invented `engineering approvals'
And BTW when the engineer that approved your mods croaks, who carries the can for it then? RTA? Or don't they really care then.

All my mods (including the Cobra Classic seats) are listed on my insurance. Shannons had no problem with it.

No.

Go back and read phillb's opening post.

Fit the seats, doesn't matter to me, your insurer doesn't care either, just don't expect too much when time comes for you to put your hand out.....

FYI, I have Cobra seats in 2 of the mini / moke fleet (with enineering approval) and rover seats in one.

This thread is not entitled "Seat Options" it's entitled COBRA CLASSIC SEATS.

You've just shown your stripes. You should quit while you can...

I like how YOU turned this into an argument Lillee.

I actually found it to be an interesting debate....and informative!
Answered a few questions I had.

??????????????????

What are YOU on about here. We where discussing seats and now YOU turn this in to a personal attack.

I'll discuss seats here, it is a public forum last time I looked.

Perhaps you need to go back and read the forum rules regarding comments like yours here.

<EDIT> I have read your postings here, I have shown you respect and not knocked them, I have conveyed my opinions and experience. I have not attacked anyone nor hijacked anything.

And it's semantics

The cobra seats in the Mini are quite comfortable that is for sure, but the rover ones are even better in that dept. and they are also easier to get in to and out of. I also find that the rover seats are just a little better in respect of viewing the instruments too. Not knocking the Cobras at all, they are good, just IMO the rovers are just that little better

<EDIT>

more like these, but not in that trim (yuk!)

I have sat in these for 16 hours straight a few times. I can't do that in the Cobras.

Interesting thread.

IMO i would think the cobra classics would provide more side support, so if your after a seat to hold you under hard cornering, maybe they are a better choice over a non-fixed back seat.

I myself have been pondering over seats for some months, and have decided to go with the cobra classics in my mini.

IMO though for longer drives, yes a non fixed back bucket seat would be less comfortable.

i have had quite a few fixed back race seats before in a few cars, not mini's, but i can vouch for the discomfort they can give you if you are using it daily or on long drives.

my 2 cents.

In comfort they are much of a muchness IMO.

The longest I have driven with Cobras is 4hrs (with a couple of stops). They were fine, but not the most comfy seat ever. However they are about 1000 times better than standard seats.

I've only ever sat in rover seats for a short trip. They were comfy, but provide less support for spirited driving.

I had a Cobra Trophy race seat for a few years, it was harder to sit in (what cushion, haha) but very good on a trip.
What used to p!ss me off though was I couldn't just lean round and open the rear side window..
Seat was too bloody tall & bulky.

A relevant side-track to this is cost.

The Cobra's in the Mini were about $650 with subframes delivered to the door.

The Cobra's in the Moke were a shade under $3 000, without subframes picked up from Mascot. These are a 'standard' Cobra Seat, but they only make them to order.

The Rover seats were $250 for the pair. Picked up from John at Mini King.

Just coming back to lateral support yes the Rover seats to give the impression that they have less, but in reality are actually about the same as the the Cobra.

On appearance, the Cobra's win out big time, but since I'm blind in that eye, I can't see what I'm sitting in

Thanks all for the info.

One of the main reasons I am going for the cobra is the look. I'm trying to keep the car looking as original (1960's) as possible and while there are many very nice looking, comfy and probably in some circumstances safer seats out there the cobra classic range seem to be the only ones that really look the (60's) part.

It's now also occurred to me that as well as the optional headrests on the Cobras looking a little odd they would probably interfere with the seat tilting forward fully as they would strike the roof. Can someone confirm this.

Also sounds like the headrests are not high enough to prevent neck injury. Normally the headrest needs to be at least level with the top of your ear to be effective I believe.

Now can I ask about the subframes. I've seen at least to 3 types...

These....

differences? opinions?

My seats need to still tip forward for rear access.

The last one looks like they might put some nasty marks in my original carpet.

Cheers

I have the bottom one. The seats tilt OK for access IF you cut the last hole off the subby.
Yes they do mark the carpet, mine has rubber feet there. One day I'll weld a bit of 25x2.0 SHS tube across them, sitting flat on the floor. Like I had on my Trophy seat.
