Ex-Defence vehicles are dealt with exactly the same way public service Camrys and Falcons are dealt with, nothing underhanded or spooky. No one ever puts a line through an asset if they can't see it out in the car park anymore.

They're sent to Melbourne (or to whoever has the contract) and offered at auction through the big auction houses and you can throw your cash down on whatever is offered up.
One of the two auction houses up at Laverton often has charry looking bulldozers painted in camo out the front for display and sale, as well as fire engines, ambulances and anything else they care to push through. I'm unsure who has the contract for vehicles att however.
