I love how all of the electric vehicle concepts always spruik on about zero emissions. How are they making the electricity to charge the bloody things up with ?

Maybe all the wind power stations that I am working on?

Wind power? Cars powered by baked beans? The future that is.
So in the US they wont need to change the sign at petrol stations

First up, I admit I drive a BMW.

This is so, so bad brand management. But look what BMW did once before with the C1. Now that was fugly.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_C1

If this electric bike was made by anybody else, and NOT called a MINI, then I'm OK with it.

The sad thing is the C1 looks like a car manufacturer's take on how bikes could be. But BMW is the second oldest motorcycle manufacturer in the world and should know better. Having said that, there are still C1s floating around and I guess for a small market segment, they're just the ticket.

What haven't they tried? Convertible. SUV. Wagon ('Clubman'). Check, Check, Check. I guess they know how to milk a brand, unlike VW who bought the Rolls Royce car manufacturing business only to find out afterwards the deal didn't include the Rolls Royce brand (which BMW snapped up). Hence the VW Phaeton (No, not surprised you haven't heard of it), while BMW make Rolls Royce. (Note to self: That World War was worth fighting, wasn't it...)

Maybe if BMC had thought of that in the 60's BMC would still be around today.

Ditto.

The Pommies were never short of good ideas or how to execute them. They could not manufacture them. Could not get the quality or the profit. As somebody else mentioned, class distinction played a big part. The arrogance of the blue bloods that ran industry and the peasants revolted with the finance provided by the red Russian commos.
