I (and some well known Mini engine builders in Sydney, and UK) no longer use the crank pulley lockwasher. I put Loctite 262 on the nose of the crank and the bolt threads, and torque it up. Never had one come loose. But you will need a puller to get it off next time... 8)

Ditto the flywheel bolt threads....

The aftermarket lock washers for both are so flimsy now that they squash, and the bolt loses tension. :wink:

good idea doc, will keep it in mind.

so can you replace it by just taking the radiator out or do you need to rib the engine out, it looks a little tight down there

Yeah you can do it in the car. Have a look if the timing cover seal's been leaking, now's the time to replace if it needs it.

one would hope not Doc...New motor in old Viv like 847klms old!! so seals should be sweet....thanks, glad the motor dont need to come out!!!

BUT BIG NOTE TO SELF NEXT TIME
replace that pulley thing and dont use the old one of the other engine :lol: :lol:

Thanks God G.R Engineering is building my 1293....he will not make such foolish mistakes :lol: :lol:
