Hi,
My 66, just has the starter soleniod from factory, that part maybe be there to help the owner tune and start alone, so you can watch the engine bay easily without having to move around to inside the cabin, everytime the car stalls.

There were 2 different starter solenoids, early (up to `68?) and late. Early one had the push button and the late one doesn't.

Floor push button starters (no solenoid) were used on 850 and some vans, but never on the Cooper, Mini Deluxe or later ones.
