finally got through to my landlords place @ fairfield today.. one of the hardest places hit.. they live on the river front.. they had it really bad... 2 stories of the 3 story manchion is fooked.. water went all through it... they held it out on the boat tied up to the house roof..
the TV and media make it look tame on TV, until you see the damage to the areas yourself you can't imagine how bad it actually is.. it shocked me,, and I thought I had braced myself.. looks like a cyclone has gone through..
the road was covered in a metre deep of sludge, and only 4wd's where getting though... i had mine all locked in hubs and all, and still stuggled and got stuck,, heaps of 4wd's where just slidding into the gutters and getting stuck.. up to the doors..
Climbed out the window rather than opening the door allowing the sludge to get in.. its just un- imagineable till you see it..
To all those who have been affected, I cant offer enough of my sympathy to you all.. I'll be back there again in the days to come, but the crew of 12 of us, amoung the hundreds wading in the streets, and cleaning, are making little progress.. but the spirit is lively, and It's just great to see people helping..
To any of those who think they can help, please do.. until you actually see it yourself, it's just not imaginable..
I can speak for fairfield to say it wont be the same for AT LEAST 6 MONTHS.. its just shocking..
