Bit late now Watto...I tried last year to get Bernie over to Phillip Island, the response was underwhelming because its spec falls somewhere between Touring Car Masters and a Sports Sedan...I asked about regularity and parades or display...similar response

I have contact details if you want to ask...

I was only half serious, Mick. Had I thought about it earlier I probably would have asked Bernie. We will be having the road car and the race car, so not the replica as well. It would certainly have got a run in the Mighty Minis Parade laps, and the regularity, and possibly in the Sports Sedans races.

Oh, well. Too late now.

By the way, I already have Bernie's contact details - we featured the car in Issue 12 of TME, remember.

Cheers,
Watto.

Love the cooling set up - twin Mini radiators plus a pipe coming out of the side of the block on the right which seems to go into ...?

Well i wouldn't go that far....I mean my own car is far from original. Just always thought the silly little boot looked odd, and that's coming from someone who used to own an Elf!

I think it's meant to be a Kamm tail. The XU1 comes to mind. Very trendy for the era. Here is a quote
Quote:
In addition to aerodynamic efficiency, Wunibald Kamm also emphasized vehicle stability in his design. He proved mathematically and empirically the effectiveness of the design. The Kamm-back, or K-form, was a body with a smoothly contoured front that continues to an abrupt vertical flat surface in the rear. However, "the shape was so ugly nobody then adopted it".

Thought of back in the 1930's but it took to the '60 and '70's for people to accept ugliness as the norm.

Well I had a couple of Fiat 124 coupes, they all had Kamm tails and I like em. I reckon they are way less ugly than say the old boat-tailed 1.6L Alfa Spider was... and the Japs have built various cars that were ugliness personified. Take the last years model Nissan Micra for example.

They classify the GT40 as a Kamm back and it's definitely not ugly and I think the XU1 looks alright too. The quote was taken from Wikipedia and thought it humourous given what smac had just said.
Totally agree with the Japanese cars, anything that looks good from Japan was probably styled by an Englishman or Italian.
