Nahh i havn put my NSW FB sticker on car, its still at home. I have been to jobs where hes been at, but probably didnt recognise me (I dont know) as ya often look different in uniform and a helment compared to civvi school teacher clothes

But he never even went and checked the rego sticker.

Yeah that was me at goulbourn down the end.... Wish i coulda cought up with you.

No i wasnt doing anything wrong when he pulled me over just driving sensibly like anyone would with common car. I had my little sister and little brother in there as well and was taken them home from school (Which is also my work).

It really got to me that he was jujst trying to find something wrong with it to pin me.

Walked round my car trying to find something wrong with it. shook me bumper etc

I said to him "I wasnt doing anything wrong was I" he said no. he pulled me over because my car in his words "looks dodgy" i said "thats not very nice" his reply "mate well it is"

"He says you have a silver wheel and all the rest green" Told him i had gotten a flat and hadnt got the other fixed.

"tried to tell me i needed a side mirror, said It passed blueslip without one.

Tried to tell me i had the wrong battery in it, I told him it wasnt, Thats the one the product sheet told me to get.

Then he was trying to say im argumentative and then had a bit to say about that, and by this time he was getting a bit upset    I think he just got soooky cause there is nothing obviously wrong with my car that he could threaten me with, so went the bluff by saying he can make me stand on side of road while he searched it, Or send it over the pits etc etc etc

if i can find where it says I need a side view mirror and its after my production date IM NOT putting one on. Will print it off and keep it in my car for next time he sees me.

Funny thing is though were having an emergency services dinner in a few weeks and i will most likely seeee him there (there are other lad in the firebrigade that hate his guts as well, now i know why)

Thanks all, I will just give the RTA a ring and will look into the 72 rear view mirror thing, I didnt think 850's came with a side mirror?

Nope, according to my book no minis came with rear vision mirrors standard on minis prior to 1970's, certainly anything in the 60's didn't and were owner fit.

You can buy one of those clip on ones, that's the ones I see in the books...

Yeah didnt think i had seen original 850's with side mirrors, Thanks for the reply

Ok looked into the ADR and You and GT are right

ADR 14-rear view mirror came into force 1/72

Looked at the definiton of this and it refers to internal rear view and side mounted ones.

So we have a solution. IM NOT PUTTING A MIRROR ON.

Might print it off and store it in my car for next time, oh next time is gunna be interesting

Thanks everybody for their help.

Bubba if i was you , i'd walk up to him at the dinner ,introduce yourself, ask him how he's going, just have a general yarn to him and then see what his reaction is, ( without being a smartarse , of course ) see whether you can a better response out of him.
Don't mention anything about your car, see if he brings it up .

Years ago when I was a Drugs and Poisons Inspector I had to do a course on "Collecting Evidence" Some of the things they taught were - 'Don't ask a question unless you know the answer' - "let the suspect do the talking as they will generaly incriminate themslves and/or lead you to further areas of investigation"

The only information you are required to give is your name and address and show your drivers licence. Keep your mouth shut and they have to proove their case.

you say that you have the holes for a mirror.
i was under the assumption that it was similar to seatbelts.
eg. if they werent fitted from factory you dont need them, but if it has been fitted at a later date and there is evidence of it you have to have it fitted still

I will stand by Brenton 100% here.. When I was heading to Cowra from QLD to meet up with him and his family and brothers who all own mini's I was warned that the cops there are WANKERS... i stopped outside the town and put my p plates on the outside, disconnected some lights that I didn't think they would approve of, which are legal in QLD, and even checked all my lights,,, i was very worried for being picked for petty crap. Him and his brothers get pulled up all the time,, almost everyday... if it was me I would be taking it further to the head department.. its coming down to harassment... They just are trying to find things to do with their time and badge.. I would not tolerate it..

One got done for a "bald" tyre only 1 week after the blue slip was issued. Not long before I got there, and I looked at the tyre and it still was enough, not new, but still would pass here in QLD with ease.

I couldn't get out of the town fast enough,,, every street I drove down I saw him.. he was out pulling all sorts over,, both days I were there, i saw the cop car pulling people up...

I'm glad you didn't get done mate, if you did I would have been red in the face with anger, and taken it all the way to court, and waste their badge time..and humilate them for being co*k heads...

my 2 cents..

This story actually reminds me of an incident I had once. I was driving through my suburb when and came to a pedestrian crossing where an elderly lady was crossing. When she was about half way across this big silver AMG mercedes came flying through and mentioned outloud that this guy was a 'fu%^ing idiot'. A

nyway as I continued on my merry way I see this tool pull in behind me flashing his lights and honking his horn. This continues for about 2kms before I finally pull up in a side street, just incase there was something wrong with my car. He gets out of his car and comes up and asks do I know who he was. Of course I didnt know so he says he is the man who 'defects' cars for the police and swearing should not be tolerated and threatened me with defecting my car. Obviously this guy was a nut and kept threatening me when i noticed his head stood barely higher than my mini.

So i just got out (unfolded myself - im 6'6") and stood there and asked exactly what was wrong with my car. Needless to say he didnt feel so tough when he realised that it wasnt a midget P plater driving a mini but rather a 6'6" giant. Im not one for confrontations but this guy was really out of line threatening me.

Point is, some people just cant help being dicks, whether their in a position of authority or not.

Perhaps it's my age but I prefer to be nice and helpful when interacting with Police. As with any other part of society there are some who can be obnoxious and provocative making you feel like you should 'push back'. But, in general I have the utmost respect for them. They face the pits of society on a daily basis and are verbally and physically abused as they try to make the world a bit safer for us and our families. I try to give them the benefit of the doubt if it seems they are pushing my buttons. Being a smart arse with Police may seem justified and give a sense of self-satisfaction but it usually ends up in a no-win situation that could've been avoided. Just take a big breath and put pride to one side.

The above is not a suggested response to the specific situation Bubbaclubby faced as I wasn't there.

Hey all
...reckoned i had to have a mirror on the side of my car . It passed blueslip without one and my old mini used to pass pink slips without. there are holes there for one.

Am i legally required to have one it is a 12/71 GT?

I had a bit of a search on the internet buut couldnt find if i was required to have one.

Thanks Brenton

I "think" manditory side mirror came in the time of non protuding door handles, non reflective windscreen wipers and head restraints on front seats for 1972.

Doug , you are spot on :!: . When i was a lot younger, i would always challenge the constabulary whenever i was pulled up and booked, i always thought that i had done nothing wrong. In the end it used to cost me a fair bit of money, but it took me a long time before i realised that i was better off ( financially ) if i kept my mouth shut, because 9 times out of 10, they were legit infringments, and i might add , that none of my bookings
were for anything serious, ( just thought i'd clarify that ! ).
The most embarrising thing about my driving record was showing my daughter my RTA printout when she got her licence  .

Sounds like your's would match mine.......Only, I never gave them any lip, around where I grew up, that sort of thing usually only resulted in a punch in the guts and possible on-going intimidation, so best that you just took your medicine......
