Thanks to all for replying, haze blue 850, you were correct, the thread in the striker plate is 3/8 NF24.

Can I ask anyone to clarify, did the later Australian made mini not have the
striker plate (threaded plate) fitted to the wheel well?

that's right - some time in mid 60's they were deleted
