So, we're talking...

Silver Birch (Met.) 13260 for the Cooper S 4.5J x 10 Ventilated Wheels on a 1967 mini Copper S?

I don't think so - I had some 13260 mixed up for my '70 car, and it was much too green, I think the correct one is 06968

I purchased a set of restored Cooper S wheels a few years back that had been supposedly repainted in the correct Silver Birch colour and like you Simon they always looked too green to me like there was not enough silver in the mix, just never looked quite right. Not sure what code the painter used but it was definetly too green in appearance.

Ok I am in the process of getting some original Cooper S wheels repainted, I have 4 I bought privately, plus my original spare.

As I strip back the various coats of paint added over the years they all have the same colour underneath. In fact I would call it more a grey with a green tinge.

When I compare it to my switch panel in the car it also looks to have the same green tinge.

Going off Winabbys original paint charts in the "How to" section 13260 is Listed for the wheels in the BMC chart. This seems to be the one with the green tinge.

The Dulon refinish chart shows shows 06968 as the wheel colour. Who has used this? Is it more of a bright silver?

Why two different codes? Where does the truth lie???

Heres a Pic of my wheel, someone had painted this wheel with wheel silver
like you get from repco, still some round the rim. Original colour in the centre.

I've used both colours for wheels. 13260 is way too green

06968 is the correct one for pre-72 cars, 13260 is '72 onwards

So would you say 06968 still has a green tinge and 13260 has more of a green tinge.

I'm still confused because the BMC charts seem to contradict the Dulux charts.

Maybe the BMC chart is a misprint?

hmmm..... well, best answer from me is

comparing the wheels that I've painted myself with the paint I had mixed up from my local paint shop using the formula they have on their computer

putting the two wheels side by side, 13260 definitely has more of a green tinge, and it makes the 06968 look quite silver; however if I put a piece of raw aluminium next to the 06968 wheel, you would say it had a slight green tinge

:D

If I remember tomorrow I will take a photo of the spare wheel from my Morris 1100 and compare it to the Cooper S wheels.
I don't know what it will prove but it might get me into the shed for a while.

tell you what - if I remember, I'll dig out my original spare (complete with the Dunlop SP41) and put it next to the other two - I might even take a picture!

Here is the spare from my 1100. It has been in the boot of a fairly low mileage car since 1966. It still had the original lightly worn tyre till a few years back...

Image

It does look a bit green on this angle...

Then it looks silver again...

Looks a lot different on the other side...

I suppose being named after a tree you would expect a little green in the silver.

Thanks guys. So Simon the 13260 is even greener?

I'd be very interested in a pic side by side if you are able.

Morris1100 if you still have original paint on your cooper s wheels how do they compare. Your car is only a few months different to mine.

Cheers guys appreciate this. If I'm going to spend the $$ to get them painted I want to get them right.
