The Mini Experience Magazine had a very extensive article on the Mini K.

You beat me to it - Issue 18, by the way.

Terrific! Maybe worth a story for The Mini Experience. Give me a call or PM/email me so we can discuss.

However, for Monster Mini's request for 1971 pics, be mindful there are numerous differences between 1970 and 1971 models, due to ADRs - most importantly are the doors with low-protrusion (lift-up) door handles and burst-proof door locks, the heater (later "Clubman-style) and heater controls on unique panel under lower dash rail between steering wheel and driver's door.

Issue 23 of TME had a feature on the 1971 Cooper S, which shows the differences between 1970 and 1971 models. Although on a Cooper S, remember that the interior trim and layout is identical for Mini K and Mk2 Cooper S.

Cheers,
Watto.

Would some of these Mini K's been the ones that MiniKingdom and others would have been converting from ex-police S's back to Mini K's because of the high insurance ratings.

Therefore at least some mini K's started life as Coopers ??

You can't make a Cooper into a Mini K and it would only be Mk2 Cooper S's that could have been.

Cheers
steve

PS. I'll see what pics I have tonight

Here are the scans of the Mini K brochure, as was mentioned above there may be some differences in the later '71 lift up door handle models, but might give you an idea of what they were like.

Damn - I got the 1970 burstable door locks :( I knew those ADRs were good for something

What a fantastic brochure....a real blast from the past :D :D ...LSD psychedelica and all that
Love this,
"Big New 1100 Engine
Brings you effortless bounding power
never tiring endurance"
And love that chick showing the interior of the car.
Chicks from the 60s and 70s were the best.

They are quite funny to look back on, I have a few other brochures as well, Morris 850, Mini Deluxe, 997 Cooper, Cooper S and a few others I'll have to go through them and see what is there.

I love the "Synchro" section..
"The new Mini K has synchromesh on all four gears, including first. You change like a champion, no matter how steep the hill"
" A real face saver for the girls!"
Classic 8)

Don't feel bad man, the later locks might be burstproof but the hinges still aren't.
The door fell right off my son's Clubby in a head on accident... the cast iron hinges both broke!

Sounds nasty - hope he came thru it all OK.

My late father was less concerned for my safety when I got my first mini. His throw-away line was " if your'e going to hit someone, make sure they are driving something cheap"

My mum was driving a 1971 cooper S way back in the day when she was overtaking a truck, the truck did not see her and merged into her lane. The mini hit the tire of the truck and flung it a couple of feet in the air, the car rolled 8 times. The doors did not open due to the burst proof locks, its probably the only thing that saved her life.

Either way, people are kidding themselves if they think minis are safe by today's standards, just drive sensibly.

nope that was another accident in a mini. Im not saying that they are safe compared to modern standards, but i am saying that the burst proof locks are safer than the normal roundy locks.
