I have one in each motor, 1412 stroker and 1360- but both have a centre pickup.

I would be rather concerned if I did NOT see a magnetic sump plug from a Mini come out looking something this this when doing an Oil Change

The metal 'splinters' are from the Baulk Rings in the Gearbox, this is why Mini's are fitted with a megnetic sump plug in the first place. Of course, it will attract all loose ferous metals float about in the oil as well, so it's always worth a look at what's on it.

If you don't see them, either your are using the wrong oil or your baulk rings have worn out.

Yeah, I should point out I was actually a little relieved when the plug came out like this - I was worried there would be much more and in bigger pieces.

The thing is there's usually about half this amount, and I usually change the oil every 3000km, this was only 2000km.

Well, I'll see what the mechanic says.
