I really just need something that can handle the .7ohm primary winding of my MSD Blaster Coil.

I think Tony's kit only works with stock dizzy also.

You are 100% correct Petronix, Britparts, Hotspark and My Brand Ignition Kits are designed to replace Points in older car systems. They are designed to work with Std Coils so no other modifications will need to be made.

Why was it no good? Did it not fit? What model number is it?

What other brands of electronic ignitions are there to suit Lucas 29D dizzys? I would like to use this MSD coil but it seems there is no Ignitor II version to suit the 29D.

I've used them before and had no problem with them . Just every now and then you get a bad one

If you are deadset going to run the MSD coil you should ask them what electronic kits suit (probably, theirs).
personally, I'd eBay the MSD coil and buy something else...

I would also lose that 29D dizzy, and put a 43D or 45D in it.. or a Pulsar.

Kevin-I know you weren't too impressed with the replacement Pertronix dizzy's that we got about two years ago,but we have had a good run out of them. I was also running with the Lumination before I brought this.
Here's a pic in case Hanra is interested

Ive contacted Pertronix, they have no listing for a 29D. And there is no upgrade from the LU-142A Ignotor I to an Ignitor II version.

I will just buy one of there Flamethrower coils to suit and hold onto the MSD as you just never know when you might need it.

I had Ken Nelson Overhaul and Re-Curve this dizzy, so Ill just hang onto it. What are the benefits of the 43/45Ds?

It is very unfortunate when people experiment and get disappointed. I know it is very easy to make a mistake. Without thinking first "Will this handle that?". Most Ignition Kits made for Lucas Distributors are designed for standard coils. I always remind people that the Kits I sell are only designed to run with Std Coil or GT40. What one can achieve in a road car with anything more powerful for spark I am yet to see the benefit of. For those who don't know I do have Kits for 29D4 too. I have had them specially made to my request. So now I have Kits for 23/25D, 43/45D, 59D and 29D.

I finally got around to re-fitting the new Pertronix LU-142A and Flamethrower coil as supplied to suit this module on the weekend. (shows how much I drive the thing....)

Anyways, got fuel checked tyres, bit of a blocky, started to run on 3 cyls (later found No 3 spark lead fell off dizzy cap), as I was nearly home, I decided to continue running on 3 cyls, then it died completely...

It appears the Pertonix module has failed again.... not cool at 6pm about 1klm from home... Managed to push it to my cousins as my house is all uphill from where I broke down... At least its locked up and safe... Occurred to me that there really is no where to tow a Mini from safely without risk of damage to the Apron panel....

Now.... Why has this failed again....?

I am not running a ballast resistor... I cant see that it specifies one???? The original module worked well for years with a stock Bosch GT40 coil... They do lists 2 different coils for the flamethrower, 1.5 and 3 ohm.... I just checked my order and I specified the 3ohm coil which should have been ok considering Im not using a ballast resistor.

You've confirmed it was the ignition? If a car sat for 8 months I'd be looking at fuel/carb etc first.

With a standard Pertronix (I) any 3 ohm coil will do. Can also use a 1.5 ohm, but only in series with a ballast resistor.

Pertronix used to be reliable, were US made, but I wonder where they are made now....

Yes. Confirmed nil spark at plugs or direct from HT.

Ill have to confirm that Ive been supplied with the 3ohm coil tonight... If I have the 1.5ohm coil, Ive got no ballast resistor... So that would explain it failing again due to excess current draw.

And here I am with one of the very last available Pertronix Ignitor Flamethrower III dizzy,s Part No D1706 and I,ll be using it with a Flamethrower III 0.32ohm coil , am I really going to need a ballast resistor ?

All their stuff is made in Mexico now and they are winding back the products available for A-series , very, very little stock on the shelves world wide

Hanra you said a while ago that your car was in a bubble and had some interior mould , are all your connections clean including the earth strap ?

.

No Dean, a ballast resistor is only needed for Pertronix I models.

I guess Pertronix are feeling the pinch from all the noname modules made in China.

I now run 2x (Hitachi) Pulsar dizzies, with modified advance curves, both are bulletproof. Leaving the juice connected doesn't kill them. 8)

Havnt had a mould issue since I replaced the filters and also cleaned the interior down with vinegar/water. Cant say I know the condition of the earth strap. The rest of the connections are all fine.

I have a feeling Ive been supplied with a 1.5ohm coil... its was 10pm last night when I measured it and Ive got a feeling it was 1ish ohms across the primary.
