The same for me. Even a coffee break can be enough to clear the head and when you go back to the job, you see your mistake immediately.
I had a moment like that last weekend re-inserting the Beetle's engine after a clutch swap. It just would not go fully home into the bellhousing and I strugged and swore at it for a good 45mins.
After a coffee the light globe lit in my head and I put a spanner on the crank pulley. I turned it about 3 degrees and the motor slid straight it. It was just that the clutch splines had not lined up with the input shaft.
