Are they a hard plastic sea weed disc? Might have to pick a few up and give it a go.
And I think acid dipping would be the best way. No sand or grit to clean out of everywhere

Yes they are a hard plastic mesh type wheel

I'm doing an auto painting course at TAFE at the moment and am using these wheels on a sander/polisher to strip a painted guard to bare metal.
Check the wheel's rpm rating is suitable for your grinder-

New career move Doc? .... interesting ..I have a big 7" grinder with variable speed I haven't used yet (Grays Auction GMC clear out for $9 ) sounds like the go - if I wanted to strip paint that is.

Recently when I stripped the paint on my engine, I found it very easy to use paint stripper.

I coated the area with stripper (nice and thick), let it do its thing, then hit it with a gernie (high pressure washer).

Previous use of paint stripper (without using the gernie) was just messy and was hard to get it all off without just spreading it around, but using the gernie made it sooo much easier and effective!

Though you need to treat it straight away since using water...

for a 7" strip wheel 3000rpm is about right...

david, no career move, I just want to be able to repaint my car in real acrylic lacquer when this 2 pack cheapo paint job (on top of acrylic) carks it...

Your brave mate. Its something you gotta do, once. Took me endless hours with a combination of paint stripper/large orbital sander and wire wheels on drills and angle grinders for those tricky corner bits. Just be carfeul when using powertools as they can warp the panel if used to long in one specific area.

I got over the mess paint stripper made so went the large orbital sander route for most of it. Lucky i dont live at that house anymore...every crevasse in the garage was filled with a blue dust, just something too keep in mind :)
