I've used BP since I had a bad run with Shell a few years ago - killed a couple of sets of spark plugs

The last few weeks I've been feeling that my car has been a bit flat, and even pinging a bit, but this last week it's been going like a rocket.

After seeing this thread, I think I've put 2 and 2 together - on Sunday last week I filled up at a BP in Shepparton. On Thursday, I filled up from my usual BP in Albury, and it's feeling flat again - I'm going to ring the Albury BP on Monday and see how long it's been since their underground tank was filled up, or if there's funny business going on.

always 98 obviously

I had half a tank of 95 from the United servo so filled up with 98 from the Caltex at Gwynneville, and not long after she ran like shite to be blunt - spluttering and stalling almost at lights etc - even when I pulled up at home to stop she spluttered to a halt and stalled

dunno if the mix of both wasn't welcome, but am inclined to either drain the tank or try and drive it dry tomorrow and try elsewhere for something else

I can only blame the fuel as otherwise it has been great since a tune up and service just last Friday

this doesn't sound good to me

NSW drivers could face more petrol price rises this year after the government bans regular unleaded fuel, pushing up demand for ethanol-blended and premium unleaded fuel, the industry has warned.

the industry says consumers might also choose premium petrol in preference to ethanol, which might raise the price of premium fuel.

Another thing to consider when the car seems or feels to run different is the temperature and humidity, on a cold night the car will feel different to a 30 degree day. So remember to do the comparisons under the same conditions.

We can all thank Morris Iemma (remember him??) for this.
Ethanol should be reserved for booze, not wasted in petrol. :P

I normally get 98 from the north gong caltex, have got 98 a few times from the Gwyny caltex and didn't notice too much of a difference. Might give the shell a go just to see if there is any difference.

I haven't had my Mini on the go enough to sus out what it likes & doesn't like, but my Subie ('98 Outback) seems to hate Caltex. It gets really flat & laggy around 2-2.5k RPM & needs a really good kick to get it to pull through the flat spot.

Last time I picked up a tank of the stuff was a few weeks ago heading up to Mt Buller; the car was running sweetly all trip until I needed to stop at Mansfield to fill up. As soon as I was going again the sh!t started, so it had to be that fuel. Made for a really frustrating climb up the mountain when it didn't want to pull out of the corners properly.

I've had it happen intermittently for a while, but it's only then that I figured it could be linked to particular fuels 'cos it came on so suddenly.

I only ever use 95 or 98 in it, and only go 95 if there isn't 98 available.
