What can I say. It is very hard for any club to cater for 100% of the members.

When I joined the VMCI I realised that there wasn't really enough events that I felt interested in. I decided to stand for committee along with another friend and the rest is history. We know have at least one social run each month along with attending shows and promotional events.

We have a Social Secretary who is responsible for organising social events and cruises. If you think that the club isn't catering for your needs, go along to a meeting, make suggestions, organise what you want to do, and hopefully the committee will approve the event.

You must also realise that once you run an event under the banner of a club, you must act in a responsible manner. You are out in the public eye and you must obey all road rules and be willing to promote your club in a respectable way.

Use the club you have to your advantage. Surely the people in high places are willing to listen to the opinions of a section of their club. If the need is there then surely they will realise this.

I don't really know much about the running of a club or setting up as such. I became involved purely because I didn't want to attend motorkhanas or competition events and other than that there wasn't much else happening in the club.

We also have a social meeting each much as well as the more official Monthly Meeting each month. This gives us a chance to get together over a meal and a coffee without going through the official parts of a meeting. Works really well. Some people just want to chat and socialise and this gives them that chance.

Does the NSW Club have any social events or are they mainly a competition based club?

Hope this gives you some info.

aaron you have done a good job to web site, yes i agree, i use this alot and read closely, I am in UK at moment, I have been a memeber for a long time, we orgainised an event out of Sydney some time ago a run to central coast memebrs of your sydney owners group could not be arsed thats when we all thought bugger you lot, this would have been well before most of the so cheerfull younger bunch hanging around now, but still sorry you dont cater for many outer areas, so why would we bother to join in volunter, and with motor sport side why would i want to read about datsuns or gemini's i would join there club, not a mini group, so think this is a part of club that also annoys many memebers,
sorry this is not a war but what ausmini and i wanted to do was to start a fresh club cause yours has a bad history, there is a few members and friends in Mini scene that also given up with your sydney club and feel we could run a club and group, I have many ideas from my time in Uk and feel these guys no how to run clubs sorry theyhave it made, they base a club on four cars then build on that no political shite just minis and fun,

The club plates scheme is still a scam, how does that 850 still run with a 1100 engine??, they do still pick and choose sorry, getting rid of that other tosser was a good move Rob is a better man for the role,

i hope your club does well but as stated we wanted info on starting a fresh club!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you want to start a new club go right ahead. I personally see no point in setting a up a structure for a new club when all of the monetary stuff that is involved is already catered for. I am sorry you have had issues, but don't judge the club by it's past. judge it for what it is trying to do now. Change is happening.
Enjoy your new club

I have to say that I have just had a look at the Coming Events page and I don't see a healthy split between competiton, show n shine and social.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I can't see one social event in the coming events.

The only thing is Motorex which is a static display.

I feel a little frustrated here, as i think that people are always going to have a go, it seems the Australian thing to do. The club may not be perfect, is any club perfect? But there are people trying to make it better. But from the constant bagging the club is getting from the minority, the club is getting a bad rap. It isn't all that bad.

Mutant, there is plenty of social activities going on. Hay is not just a motorkhana, it is a display, a dinner, and a general ctach up with lots of people from all over the country.
Our meeting, alot of people come and talk and socialise. There isn't a run on until August, but that because there are a number of other events, motorex being on of them. If some one would like to do something before then, well lets oragnise it now.

Any Ideas for a run anyone?

In no way was I "bagging" you. I know exactly what you are up against.

There is always those that you will never please.

If those that aren't happy won't volunteer then that makes life very hard.

As I said, I became involved because I was passionate enough to want to make things work and you have to keep working at it to do that.

Nothing comes easy. There will always be those that just want to attend and never organise or help. Unfortunately this will probably never change.

We have just got back from doing the route for our next tour on the 27th. Some of the people that attend these sort of events thank you for your efforts but there are those that just expect the club to organise everything.

Don't despair. Keep working at it. If you are persistent enough you will make a difference.

Mutant is an outsider she can see there is no action for members its been like this gee for nearly 8 years evn more (i am getting old) thats how long Ive been around it, funny that hey so i can say what i see as an outsider to sydney, we went to runs the few that was possible we were treated as outsiders and the few that did come and talk just picked at our cars, we went to a meeting drove a fair way my wife came staright of a over night shift, and sat in the friday night peak hour traffic to get there and what a reception they knew who we were, no weclome we said hello to those who we knew then meeting begain they where there patting there own backs, no thanks for coming nothing, sorry but we tried as said before we orgainised an event for them to come to they could not be arsed, look at the events calender like i have done since being away theres not much in it except for meetings one show is not a lot on, there lots of weekends in a year YOU KNOW, you can have a little run here little run there, i have been in your yahoo room, mate people are having a run to the meetings cause thats all you do (lol)

Not digging in here at this, yes there a long running club set up but with its bad history, even outside sydney n outerstate, we would want to seperate, why would old memebers like me wanna come back for the same shite, even it has changed once bitten twice shy, dont sprout hey great it is cause I know the history

Hence why we stated that we wanted to form a new club!!!!!!!

freedom of speech, people had a go when i suggested you become an affiliated group to save costs and the storm started. You have made it clear that you want nothing to do with the club. But, i believe i have the right to defend what i see as a good strong club. Sorry you feel the way you do, but with the attitde that you throw around i will always defend whati belive in. As i said enjoy your new club.

Cheers
Aaron

wow...that a thread.

Aaron, you have done very well to not lose your block!!

I am a recent new addition to MCC NSW, I drive a Clubman and surprise, surprise...I like the club.

I read my monthly magazine on Friday Night, and I saw plenty of social events, shows and competitions. An excellent mix, catering for every type of Mini enthusiast. I have been to a few events recently, and will be heading out to Eastern Creek on July 11, for the event there. The club caters for many different types of people

I didn't make it to the Mudgee weekend, but I agree 110% about members putting their hand up and organising stuff, as one member did to organise that sucessfull weekend, rather that having a dig and a bit of a sulk.

Anyway, a few disgruntled members should not turn others away from the club.

I haven't had a chance to get to a friday night meeting yet, but might go to the next one. Hope to see some faces from here.

Yes mate have been interested in this club since coming to UK mate joined them after getting the cold sholder for buying a Rover Cooper many NSW members didnt want to know him, so he went to QLD club, there shows look great and the picture page really shows the amount of people they have and all join in, Take the Xmas party every year they are there in a mass, it looks bloody hot i must say, sitting here while it snows at that time of year, but is a great lttle club, spoken to John and another memeber over here and they have welcomed me to join when i return, i must say you have a few Rover as do our southern friends is that right mutant,

aaron mate not having ago at you personally rember that, just letting the both sides of the story out, and whats with the person attack on my attitude got to with it, that was well out of order and way out of line, i never charged at you mate just tings about your club, its funny there isnt many from your club also backing you up what is there 3 so far thats all mate, so may be there are some un happy campers on here too??

I've stayed out of this stoush as I'm not a member, but I'll say several ex-members of MCC NSW are among the `group' I hang with known as MDC (NSW) (as in `Mini Drinkers Club') but we drive, not drink..
We met up on the MM/MS board.
Some of you guys met us at Wakefield Pk.
No it's NOT a Club, yet. But we do have track days at Wakefield Pk and have been known to go for drives on the twisty roads around Sydney.

IMO, joining a club is a bit like getting married. It's more fun & games when you're not married..
