There was only one Fiesta Yellow/OEW 1071 despatched to Australia in 1963 - unless it was a Personal Export car.

Quote:
My (Smoke Grey/OEW) car was Oz delivered on 11Oct63 - presumably dispatch date - based on other info from the Heritage Cert.

Allegedly it was imported by BMC and "given" to a local rally hotshot but its physical state suggests a rather benign life...

I guess its all out there somewhere...

I think this car may now be in the USA and painted Metallic Purple

I think this is the car, how do you know about this, if you don't mind me asking?

Many thanks!

Don't really understand comment...are you saying there was only one 1071 and it was FY/OEW or that there was only one FY/OEW car ..and others with different colours???

Cheers, Ian

I interpret it to read that there were more 1071s imported, but there was only one in that colour scheme.

I remember Lynn Brown's Mini well because it was so bloody quick yet seemed to be so under developed on the surface. I don't think he ever went 8 port, and always 10 inch wheels (10 x 8 Mawers I think), though the car was very light. He had some epic battles with Terry Sheil and Neil Mason's Minis, but Lynn rarely ventured outside NSW tracks.

Has Mini Experience done a story on Lynn?

There's a name I haven't heard for a long time, Neil used to service my fathers mini's (& others) at his workshop in Hornsby, as a boy I was fascinated by his race car in the workshop

Neil Mason was in my class at high school. I spoke with him a year of so back at some length.

He is a farmer these days somewhere near Dorrigo.

Hi Mike,

I stand corrected about some of the details regarding the speed set by Lynns Mini. Must be an age thing as you already said.
Lynn has cleared it up in an email posted on the other thread.

Was it you that was looking for Neil for a school reunion a while back.
We managed to track him down through some of Lynn's friends.

John.

Apparently 300 1071's were imported into Australia - however, I do not think this figure is correct as according to Parnell only a bit over 300 were exported from the UK in total.

It would seem that Fiesta Yellow was the most unpopular colour and had the shortest colour run and therefore it is possible only one FY car came to AUS in 1963.
