It's not actually for me but an older family member who is happy to pay a little more for a better example. I won't go into specifics but it was very rough

I think you are probably better off buying a rusty one. At least you know what is under the surface.

After you buy it and remake every panel out of S/S, it won't rust any more. 8)
I'm sure BMC only intended Mokes to last for 5 years, not 50.

There was a Queensland mob who were manufacturing Stainless Bodies for Mokes, but the had to have a Gal Chassis to stop the SS from cracking, so they were very heavy. And I think it was on the Qld dept rego that would register them.

Yeap, Mokes are rust buckets. Having owned over 60 of them, yes, that is harsh, but accurate.

I've just done the 'have a look at a moke for a family member thing' too with my father. Unreal amounts of money being asked for, and that's before you even start talking about the condition of the car.

I've got a mate who is into MGBs, he gets a bit annoyed when he sees how much Mokes are going for! I used to buy them for under $100.

Yeah from my looking so far it seems 9k min for something that has been 'restored' in the last 5 years and maintained. Anything less seems to require a decent amount of work.

*This is mainly through Carsales and the like and without considering negotiating price
