This all depends on how much you want to do yourself. If you want to bring the mini to a specialist, drop it off and pick it up finished, it'll cost you. But if you are interested in doing it yourself, you can save a stack.

Personally I find it far more fun to do it yourself, just make sure you do your research. I knew nothing about cars before my mini. The only issue is the equipment required.
