But the 1.5" pair is there and so is the manifold...

Do the 1.5" SU's have tags on the float bowls? If so, what letters/numbers are stamped?
Also, is the manifold a modified 1 1/4" SU item?

Trying to determine if they're the NSW Police specification for the MK II S. These carby's had their own specification number issued by SU for this application. They weren't just MGB carby's as the float bowls would not be at the right angle when fitted to a Cooper S manifold. The float bowl adapter and some other parts were changed.

If the inlet manifold has additional studs fitted for the 1.5" configuration, the ports opened out to 1.5" and the top two spare holes plugged with grub screws it's probably SPO41 specification.

So they dont fit a mini? because that would make me very disappointed...

Sure the MGB ones can be made to fit, I did it back in 1968.
Fit different bowl adaptor rubbers, or mod them a bit.

It depends on their origin. Do a search of the float bowl tag data (carby specification) on the SU website. For example, if you search on AUD325 you'll see that carbys with that number were built for the MGB. You may only need to change the float bowl adapters for Mini use.

http://www.sucarb.co.uk/ProductSearch.aspx

... and if you search on Mini and Cooper S you'll get all those specification numbers.

The twin HS4s were only used on the 3 bearing MGBs, the 5 bearing ones got twin HS6s.

Late model MGBs used twin HIF4s. Would go well on a mini IMHO

the right hand bowl tab has AUD 135F
the left hasn't got a tag but has AUD 3209 stamped onto the bowl.

Also it is most likely an MGB manifold as its a bit longer than a mini's and one of the fuel bowls is on a different angle...

They are MGB. The other carb would be a AUD135R. (F = front, R = rear)

I have a set of works H4's on my S and the tag numbers are AUD178L and AUD178R.

The MGB bowl angles and numbers are different and I think the correct bowls are only for Minis. The bowls used on MGB's are found in a number of different applications. Bowls can be carefully heated and bent to increase the angle but you'll need to know what you're doing.

Regards
Al

So im assuming the different bowl angle means it'll foul on the exhaust manifold, other than that they are compatible...?
