have you ever painted in 2k. Requires very different technique. Perhaps practice on a spare old boot or door first. Debeer gets my vote for 2k, but it does flow a lot more than the PPG 2k and it is easy to develop a run if you are heavy handed. You can get a decent respirator that is isocyanate safe but they arent cheap, mine was just under $200, pretty sure it is made by Norton. Your local paint supplier should have one in stock, and yes it is illegal to paint it in a residential area.
In my opinion if you are a novice painter stick with acrylic. Far easier to work with and get a good finish if you are inexperienced.

Thanks MrFail.

Well over 1K you say!

I only paid <$500 for the acrylic supplies for my moke's interim job!

Mind you, that was concept paints brand
Is the finish really that different between concept paints and something like deeber or ppg? Obviously someone in the trade would laugh at the question, but to average joe who will be driving, and looking at the car, how noticable is the difference?

Also, this is a silly question, but how much would the paint in a cheaper brand, like concept paints set me back?

Would be nice to keep paint suppy costs under $800 if possible, but do it once, do it right I suppose (Within budgetary reason!)

The price you spend is really determined on what you need to buy. If you go back to bare metal, a good epoxy adds on a couple hundred to your list. But like i said above, if you are doing it in Direct Gloss, it will be alot cheaper than doing it in C.O.B likei did.especially as igot an expensive clear.
Will it look much different by using cheaper brand paint. Probably not. But ask the same question after a few years of sun and weather , and the answer could be very different.
Its really your call......it is your money afterall. ;-)

You can get a 3m respirator for under $150 with an icocyanite filter. Another thing I would recommend is, do all your undercoating at home (just don't tell the fun police) and then once it's rubbed and ready for colour hire a local panel shops booth for half a day, that way you've got no dirty work area, warmth (super critical for 2k) and experts withing yelling distance if something goes wrong! Also as someone said do some practicing first maybe on some non essential parts like subframes or old panels just to get used to the application, it's not as forgiving as acrylic, but rest assured most issues can be rubbed and cut out (believe me I've got some epic runs :P)
