What are the best brakes that fit under 10 " wheels ... Something like has been said with four or six pot calipers would give the best stopping power.. But in my opinion I would and do use the standard 7.5" 's' brakes ... Even on my race car and EVERY group N mini they work fantastic .. Has anyone had poor pedal feel with four pots ?

OK...thought I spelled it out but obviously not. I covered the point about fade and adjustment etc.

Yes I fully agree discs are better than drums, hell I'm about to swap our drum car to them The point I was trying (and failing) to make was that by all means go further up the food chain in brake land, but don't kid yourself you're doing it for some kind of ultimate stopping power. You may do it for weight, or looks, if those things matter to you. However the original question was about which brakes are 'better'. To me better in brakes means ability to stop, reasonable cost, pad availability, and no legal hassles. Other opinions may vary.

Hi guys, first post on here, I know there have been alot of posts on brakes on here but most of the ones I've seen are quite old now. What I would like to know is what are the best brakes you can buy to fit under 10" wheels on a '77 leyland mini ( I know some don't fit under certain rims, I'm not concerened with this as I havnt chosen a set of rims yet just that they are going to be 10"). What I'm after is the best braking performance, I know the common options are KAD, tarox and minispares, I have been leaning more towards the KAD set up with 7.9", are there any other (new) companies doing set ups? Has anyone had the chance to compare any of these side by side? And is it worth fitting a brake booster as well?

Thanks for any help in advance
Paddy

I'm a bit of a brake tragic and have had a number over the years:

1. Standard Drums on 12"
2. Honda Civic Solid 9.2" on 12" - Current
3. Tarox 9.2" Vented 6-Pot on 13"
4. Tarox 7.5" Vented 4-pot on 10" - Current
5. KAD 7.9" Vented 6-pot on 10" - Current
6. Standard Rover 8.4" Solid on 12"

I think you should give more information as to what you want to use the car for - IMO in a mini you can never have too much braking.

The best brakes i had were the Tarox 9.2" but as you needed 13's the handling and feel of the car was not as good as on 10's. I'm sure the KAD big brake setups would be similar as well in stopping ability.

madmorrie has this kit for sale - not sure if he has sold it, it was mine originally and as said the best setup i've owned for outright braking ability and fade resistance.

The KAD setup locally would cost $2,640 from Minisport South Australia.

The KAD calipers don't have dust seals so are higher maintenance to keep clean so not really for a car that is driven daily.

I went in the search of a 10" setup that would stop the car as i've got over 200HP on tap and i'm not disappointed with the KAD 6-pot 7.9" setup - I did need to run more track orientated pads (Ferodo DS2500) for track work and initial braking on cold in not 100% compared to the bigger brake setups but a few applications of the brake and they are up to temp and very good and consistent across a range of temps.
