However, police officers have lives and personal interests as well. I have been pulled over in the mini simply because the policeman was interested in the car for the cars sake and wanted to have a chat about it from a historical perspective.

So they are too busy to pull someone up for the sake of it but not too busy to pull someone up for the sake of it :? :?

don't get me wrong, i've got the utmost respect for the job they do but it just bugs me as a driver that knows the importance of having a roadworthy car and knowing what is and isn't acceptable on a car, the amount of things that i see go by that will more than likely be involved in an accident due to its condition or for example an ex taxi i saw yesterday with not only a caved in rear panel but the tyres were balled enough they'd surely blow out in the next week or so.. things like that you see for weeks or even months on end and they're just ignored.

This is nothing new.

There was a royal outcry in the early 90's when owners of cars featured in magazines (eg: Street Machine, Fast Fours) were ordered over the pits at the RTA because of illegal mods listed in the article.

Keep your car legal then there is nothing to worry about ...

as was said in an earlyer post how would you feel if it was your kids or family who were injured by an illegaly modified vehicle .. its no different to ricers with dodgy cars ..

I can tell you every time i get a fine .. I deserve it ..

So the question remains......Is it the police or could it be RTA inspectors
sending in these photos?

Probably RTA ..

Their was a car show a few months back here in adelaide and the police were waiting as people went to drive home and defect them as they drove out of the car park .. no different really ..

If it is a Historic Rego problem it could be people in car clubs, Because when we stamp your book the " Car club" is saying that the car meets the requirements to be on this restricted regestration ..

well,,, it`s all good & well suggesting that some illegal mods on some cars are a problem/concern,,, & it`s all good & well claiming that it`s not revenue raising,,, & it`s all good & well suggesting that it would be best to have those mods/items fixed/repaired/or at least make them approved so they`re not illegal

but the big problem (the way i see it) is the attitude of the young punks/kids attempting to drive these things... surely the saying-->""""the gun doesn`t kill people""" still holds true yeah???

so,,, it`s the '''people''' who are the problem yeah? & not so much the mods yeah?????

i like to modify cars so they are more """efficient"""... in doing so they become safer,,, but i too have seen some pretty dodgey stuffed up cars & shudder to think who is driving such atrocities... but (((Yet again))) the car can be just parked there, not even harming a fly

Why is it just the "young punks" too? I've seen plenty of older drivers who should be banned from coming within 50 meters of a car.. Australian drivers are crap on average and it comes from our "learning to pass your test" type driving education

But I agree, a 800hp muscle car is as safe as a Prius as long as the person driving it isn't a spaz

and yet, many of these 'illegal' modifications are of no concern to police in other civilised countries...

i have been pulled over for having semi slicks before, because the officer said they were 'bald'

yes! for upgraded brakes, 'bald' tyres, and no back seat. all overturned in court of course, but nothing i could say at the time could have helped.
i don't, but if they don't know what they are fining me for.. why are they fining me?

Because you are the exception. When he sees hundreds of commodores/hiluxes/patrols every day with those same mods they are illegal. Take it as a compliment he is seeing it as what it is, a car on the road. Rather than joining the many that see it as a toy that is too small to be a car.

Hi
Before you all go jumping down the throats of the police and rta you may like to know it was a member of the public that sent the photos, and i would to think that people that do modify their minis maintain them better than some of the std cars that i see being driven around, most people i see with modified minis normally do the three basics engine, brakes and suspension making them a better car than what they were in the first place lets face it most people that buy a mini do something to improve it even if its just to add some wheels and tyres or a better exhaust just to make it a little better it's than std but its still modifying it so where do you draw the line very few people that i see drive a bog std mini.

Well, that is a sorry individual or a do-gooder, imagining they are doing a public service.
Now I can see car owners that have been stung preventing photos of their cars :(
