I done one for a mate a couple of weeks ago , i removed the ( top ) , of the bottom radiator hose , ( Off the water pump ) , and you can get your arm down there without too much trouble .

The worst part is trying to get the nut off the gearbox end if they haven't been touched in a long time , a small pair of multi-grips work well .
Once you have got the nut off , give the thread on the gearbox a good clean , and put a
light smaer of grease or Vasoline on the thread , then only do the nut up finger tight .

Also , another trick i do is , put some tape ( or a cable tie ) around the cable at the top ,
so the top nut can;t run back down the cable , whilst you're trying to get the bottom nut sorted .

Another trick is to get the longer Morris 1100 cable. Doesn't make it any easier to get your hand in but it's less of a pain to get it to mate up again.

I always fit a cable tie to the top of the cable, it saves a lot of frustration in most cars especially Morris 1100s.

I think the best advice would be to just have a crack at it.
Some find it easy, some find it hard. You'll never know if you don't give it a go.
