The only Cooper S's and Clubman GT's that came from the factory with 1.5" SU's were the Police specification - SPO41 for MK II S and SPO28 for the Clubman GT. All the other "Cooper S" engines had 1.25" SU's.

Nice car, why do so many GT's lose their trim? I think your tachometer may have been changed also.

Most I've seen have a 6500 red line?

Hope the engine rebuild goes well, what's the spec?

:P ..............

Wow love the number plate :D

Yeah Graham is right. The tacho should red-line at 6500.

There should be no GT badge on the boot either.

Looks like a good solid car that wont take much to return to how it is supposed to be.

Its a shame that so many Gt's lose their original trim, as its a nightmare trying to find replacement.

What model is it? This will tell you what type of interior it should have (ie basketweave or plain type clubman style strim)

Any pics of the engine bay?

great car none-the-less though

Hey Mr Moke,
Nice GT.

Where did you bring it from?

Also, Carter, could you please provide more information on the Bathurst tarmac upgrade of 1969? I know Morris 1100 is a concrete connoisseur, perhaps you have the gravel ratios before and after?

I do know that the track got a lot of new hot mix in 1968/69. The Formula Vee lap record is always a good indicator of circuit changes and the Vee fastest lap dropped by an amazing 10 seconds between 68 and 69
But the main reason that the Clubman GT's could do better lap times than the Cooper S was capable of in 66/67 was the fact that they were no longer stock standard Series Production race cars.
After the end of 72 they were Group C touring cars with a lot of upgrades. (did anyone run split Webers on a Clubman GT at Bathurst? They were legal from 73.)

What motor should a late GTs (Jan '73) have? A 11 stud block with chest covers - or a 'normal' 1275 with twin carbs?
Did they run a remote box with S ratios and Hardy Spicer joints?

Nice to see thomas_hb being his usual helpful self.

My block has the 2 extra stud holes with pot joint drive shafts .And my engine number starts 1206/**** And my tag starts with YG2S8 **** Year 1/ 73

The heads had to be taken off to find a little problem.

You might want to make sure you hone (and with the correct angle - hone pattern) or you won't get any seal on your new rings and you'll get heaps of blow by and your sump will become a pressurised vessel and you'll blow all your gaskets to pieces and the world will go into melt down and people will blame you for the new carbon tax.

Or something.

There is a reason the pistons and rings are like that (bore wear).
I'd add $100+ for a rebore and hone, fit next oversize pistons, do it properly. Then it'll go like a bought one.

What are pistons worth now? for say 1275 +.20 thou ones. Would it only cost $100 to rebore and hone?
