I do have a couple of spare mini jacks but i was particularly frustrated when I took my mini to the local garage to get something done that I couldn't do in time.

They couldn't couldn't get their workshop trolley jack under the car so they got out my mini jack from the boot, set it up. !!!

Then they stuck their high speed high pressure rattle gun on it and completely stripped the jack's thread.

Handed it back to me and said "sorry, it must have been faulty" -

Rubber plug? Bet that was always lost at the first tyre change.

I have a feeling that the rubber plug may have only been fitted to English cars to stop the salt from falling out.

Original jack is brilliant for changing tyres on the side of the road. I use a trolley jack for everything, but is impractical for storing in the car just for emergancies.

Remember that you use it with the DOOR OPEN. A lot of people DO NOT KNOW THIS, and hate them because they think they are too slow. Infact they are VERY QUICK.

And don't forget to lubricate the thread.

Where would one be likely to find a proper Mini jack these days?

Got mine from John Smidt (Mini King - Narellan) for around $20 - but probably down to his last container of them now.
