I am going through this process at the moment too on a Morris 1100.

Two things the guy was really narky about; the horn and the exhaust manifold.

He reckons the horn doesn't work continuously while you turn the steering wheel through its full 360 degrees. I reckon it does and he wasn't able to show me what he meant.

He also reckons the exhaust is leaking from the flange. I pulled it down, gooped it up and re-attached but he still reckons it leaks.

As others have alluded to, sometimes this is a glorified kabuki dance to get you to throw your hands in the air and ask them to just fix it for you.

Remember, if you fail the first inspection the first follow up is free.

Also, it might be helpful for those who have found sensible blue slippers to mention them here. I reckon the guy I went to is just a rip off merchant.

The problem is they're effectively a franchised agent of the RTA and they can do/say what they like. You are allowed to drive an unregistered car as far as the nearest blue slipper and only a few mechanics are certified for blue slips. So, that means he can diddle you around as much as he likes because you either come back to him or trailer it further afield.

I am going to try Revrite Performance in Silverwater. Others here have found them to be helpful and sensible and not try to demand bullshit repairs to things which aren't actually broken.

You don't have to go to the nearest one. The nearest one may be booked out so you can go to the nearest convenient one. (I think that was how it used to be worded)

Yes, that's the wording still but with a $1000+ fine it's a big gamble. Most cops don't give a crap how correct your interpretation of the rules are.

I'd see them in court..

Luckily the nearest ones to me are from the Indian sub-continent, they are velly velly good at passing Minis for a blueslip. 8)
