My old man bought me a set of H4s for Xmas, but they are the flat (awful IMO) ones. They are still sitting in their boxes with globes if anyone wants. I'm looking at these for Barney....

Reading this article explains that a bit ...... and raised my interest on them more...

So what are they like driving on low vs high beam ?

And that article does an excellent job of explaining why my Hellas give a fantastic low beam but high beam is useless. Or alternatively excellent high beam and no low beam.

Yeh the auto levelers and washers probably wouldnt retrofit the classic p700's.... cause you know... illegal to drive HID's without them

And then run it past an engineer to get it certified?

Good luck getting HIDs engineered!
Besides, no they won't work as you'll need to run a projector style headlight, not a reflector.

What would possess you to run HIDs anyway?
Do you like dazzling other drivers?
Do you have consideration for anyone on the road apart from yourself?

Take a good hard look at what you're about to do, Danny boi.
:x

PS. From the motorists that share our roads, to you we say "f!ck you!"

HID is for wankers. Only other muppet I've seen do it is a South Australian Moker but he also got upset when an eBay seller had a sale after he paid full price and he's possibly a seppo so it all makes sense I guess.

Also, yes. Not only are they wanky but unlike other wanky upgrades (like a fully hectic blow off valve) where at least 5% of other drivers think "Hey cool!", with HID every other driver just wants to stab you.

I think its sadder to see such blatant disregard for other people's safety. The law is in place for a reason.

Yeah but without the rude language most of us agree. Especially the ones who wear glasses or have slightly impaired vision and get blinded by anything other than standard headlights. I dislike spotties and foglights run all the time (illegally) but HID's are the worst, especially the few i have seen that are retroffitted.

Nothing against you personally but dont do it. H4's do nicley and you don't look cool for blinding people or running fogs/spots in normal weather..

Says the bloke with the juvenile fetish for silly headlights.

Why do you want HIDs? Is that want greater than your desire to be a considerate road user?

If yes. Carry on. But don't expect people not to comment on your choices.

I'm not nuts on HID's and to be honest its a bit of a trade off right? You might get increased visibility, but it just takes one driver to be dazzled by your lights to drift over and wipe you out.

I recently spent a couple of weeks driving him through galston gorge at night. and the few factory HID's I saw made me damn uncomfortable, I'd hate to think the effect of homebrew ones on people driving on road like that...
