Well admittably mine hasn't ever stalled, but I figured that was the point :?: Never tried it on a car without an exhaust leak! Basically block the exhaust off, it should become obvious if there is a leak present.

there's your answer...the ecu would be doing what it would to stop it stalling...

i love watching my honda on a cold morning....revs to about 2000 ... then see's how far it down it can go and hangs around there until it's warm.. :)

Dad did this briefly before I bought my first mini... as I understood it it gave you some idea of how good the compression was...

I think maybe if you tried it on a car that didn't have an exhaust leak you might not be able to hold against the pressure. don't know....

The other one was stick your finger in the spark plug hole and flick the starter if it tries to blow your finger out the spark plug hole the compresson is not too bad, this also helps when finding TDC on the inlet / compression stroke.

i think its timing
a periodic pop amongst the flow of exhaust
for me
means the timing is out and you just flick the dissy either way to remove it
outed dissy also means funny idling too

if youre talking about an actual backfire (loud shocking pop)
i found its your leads that are in the wrong order
