What happened to the yellow sports sedan thing you got with the Bathurst car?

Its in the shed and is second in line for a resto. Am currently throwing in a few bits and pieces with 28C's stuff as I rust convert, soda blast things. Will be returned to original race condition prior to becoming a sports sedan. I have the original guards and engine to put back in. The shell is in absolutely awesome condition. No rust and no signs of any accidents. Just needs a little stitching together. I have the cars original straight cut special tuning gearbox and lsd, weber etc so should be a relatively easy and nice resto to do. Plan is for 28C at the next muster and the yellow (originally burgundy) there in part restored condition.

I'm currently looking at the original log book for my Appendix J (Group Nb) Mini and the first race entry is 8/11/1980.

It is my understanding Appendix J Historic started in 1980 after discussions in 1979?

My car was log booked by Jack Lacey in QLD before moving to Ian Stewart of ACT. I started racing it in 1994 and have raced it every year since then.

Wow that is awesome. Lacey had 4 minis I believe. I have the second last, which was run as a Group C car. The one I am chasing was his last one. What date in your log book did Lacey sell that car on?

Log book of my car was transferred to Ian Stewart on 28/1/1983.

By the log book Jack only raced it 8 times.

If anyone has information on the various race cars then it is Max Stahl who was the editor and owner of "Racing Car News" until it was sold to the daughter of along time motor journalist whose name I simply cant bring to mind. The one who wrote as Romsey Quint.

Max is still around and publishing a broadsheet publication about motorsports. He lives on the Central/Mid North Coast of NSW now and I know he has archives of all his publications.

He also has a very good memory and was deeply involved in the Appeendix J Association until the mid to late 1980s.

I did have both his telephone number and email until a fairly recent hard disk crash.

Mike

A Geriatic synapse happened - a rare event - It was Bill Tuckey and it was his daughter Liz >> who took over Racing Car News - until it finally folded.

Thats the car. Would love to see some pics. Jack had both cars at the same time for a while. I can only think that he considered the Group C car too modified to race in Appendix J. Funny thing is once he sold it, it ran in Group C very successfully for a while then was turned into an Appendix J car anyway. It is now back in Group C specs, as raced by Ken Nelson.

Here is the original add for when I purchased the car in 1992 from Canberra. It had run a few hillclimbs in this guise. MK2 English grille etc had to be put back correct.

Excellent stuff. Nice to see the car is in good condition. That white car in the pic is not mine and is one of the other cars Jack owned. I believe his second car, but I may be wrong. I will continue to track down his other 2 cars if possible. There is a Jack Lacey Memorial Trophy race, and Jack was a well known punter in the day. If you ever come up to Brisbane or when I take a run south I would love to catch up and see the car in the flesh.

Made me laugh. Jack running an LSD in Appendix J....Pretty typical of Jack to push the boundaries a little.

Thankyou for your assistance this has been great.

I remember Jack coming down to Oran Park and Amaroo.
Actually he seemed to be everywhere that man!
