Thanks Guys,
I took your advice and did a slightly heavier coat and it come up a lot better. I also dialed down the pressure to 30 PSI and it also seemed to make a difference.

The only other thing that I did was change the tip from 1.5mm to 2.0mm. This was on advice from the paint shop, who told me that 1.5mm is more for 2K paints, 2.0mm is more suited to acrylic.

Thanks again for the advise.
James.

In regards to having to go to bare metal......

Remember that the more paint layers (thicker paint) means a greater chance of crows feet to occur... especially in the aussie weather.

I think acrylic shouldnt go more than 250 microns thick ... Which is like paper thin.

For scratches etc you go back until the scratch is out. If it is to metal then it is best to apply etch primer etc so that the next layer of paint has something to bond to.

Normally on a car you would go down to bare metal when:
You dont know what paint has been used - arcylic or 2k
You dont know how many layers of paint have been applied already
You dont know what is beneath the existing paint - like rust, bad patches, bondo, fibreglass

I will post a link to a useful guy on YouTube which has a great howto on fixing scratches.

Here is the link that I mentioned:

It is worth watching other videos of his.

One thing to look out for with getting rid of a scratch is to feather the area around it. A Dual Action/Orbital sander makes light work of that.

Good luck.
