If you mask off the polished main sections you would only need to polish the thin flat bit again which wouldn't take too long. Here is how mine came up, but i havn't polished mine.

i dont know if it would work, but could you paint the spokes and then rub back the polished surfaces with emery paper and to a polish then clear coat the whole thing?
